Default How to prepare for Current Affairs?

Hi,
I've just started my preparation for the CSS exam. Could someone please recommend the best sources for current affairs (other than DAWN Newspaper because I am already reading it thoroughly)

Good to know that you have already started reading dawn. It will also help you in Essay, English precis & composition, Pakistan affairs and in many other subjects. Grab writing style, learn new words, idioms etc and make short notes for all possible subjects.

Now apart from dawn, of course you need to cover your subject from a book. When you analyze the syllabus, you will come to know that current affairs is not totally current affairs (all the things happened in past 1 year prior to exam) & Dawn will only cover recent topics related to recent happenings. Like in 2nd part of syllabus you need to prepare Pakistan's relations with some countries. You are required to prepare from start . Like when you have recognized their country or when they have recognized your country. All the important contracts etc between them.
I have gone through many books but so far I have fount current affairs by Waseem Riaz Khan published by JWT the best. Surely he has copied a lot of material from internet but still it is well written and well compiled book. You need not to google each and every thing including facts and figures. It is sufficient alone for past happenings.
If want to consult more than 1 books it is your choice.
I had also consulted Pakistan & world affairs by Shamshad Ahmed which is also Jahangir success series book. I had bought this book on recommendation of many CSP's and it was worth reading. It also covers many topics of IR and PA.
I also had Focus current affairs but I have not liked that book. So, it is almost useless at least for me.
Now as you are reading dawn so, there is no need to buy any book like contemporary affairs by imtiaz shahid. What he actually does is copy past articles from different magazines and newspapers and compile it as book. It is good for only those who do not read dawn. Also JWT publishes quarterly book on current affairs. If some one is not regular in reading dawn they can consult that too. I have liked that one more than contemporary affairs by Imtiaz Shahid.
I will highly recommend you to read JWT monthly magazine. It is helpful.
So, you can use following 3 main sources for prepration.
1- Dawn
2- JWT monthly magazine ( You can get on monthly basis or All in 1 edition in Jan 2018)
3- CA by Waseem Riaz Khan (JWT publishers)

Book will help you cover previously happened topics and magazine & newspaper will help you regarding current and future happenings till exam day. Keep screening relevant data and start compiling. Make short notes in bullets. They will help you in exams.

You can also read monthly press review for better understanding of the topics, every news paper discusses it differently. besides, either The Diplomat, The economist or Foreign affair Magazine-- buy one of them , they are monthly magazines and pretty much wrap up all international happenings events etc and give much better analysis than locally published books.

Russia-Pakistan relations
US-Pakistan relations.
Middle east crisis.
Democracy.
CPEC and OBOR
India-China relations
Changing regional alliances in region.
Climate change will also be important topic because of recent rains across the globe.

These are some of "hot" topics in past two months, except CPEC, since I have restarted following news. CPEC dominated last year papers. So, remember to prepare its every dimension.

are not these same topics as in pak affairs
i am preparing pakaffairs these days and feel like wasting time because this itself is current affairs preparation and for that i am already reading news and press review.
should i stop reading pak affairs book by jwt and give time to my last optional gender studies?
or keep on reading for pak affairs topic wise as in syllabus.

replies will be highly appreciated and give some direction and motivation at this confusing point in my studies.

thanku
