The Rise and fall of great powers is a discourse on Economic Change and Military conflict from 1500 AD to the end of 20th Century, This is a good book but obviously not exclusively for CSS current Affairs paper and not precisely for the General knowledge Hamza referred to in his post. This book is very bulky and is not at all exclusive for CSS CA paper, I reiterate.

I would also give my humble opinion, don't keep that scrap book etc, we have to be smart, time is short and so are resources. Just do one thing, In the first week of February, go to BBC Timeline of Events for the year 2013, the time line would contain chronological listing of all important events with link to the detail of the event, just review all the events and that's it. In CA paper particularly keeping in mind the CE 2013 paper, you have to be analytic in your approach, that's the way we do things around.

Asalam O Alaikum,
BBC timeline of events is enough or we should buy any good book?
Thanks.

Well Isha let us be pragmatic. Which book you think is good? I know you won't have any good answer, albeit there can be many book that may come in handy for you but as we all know CA paper has no chalked out syllabus like optional subjects, so any book can be good enough but certainly not sufficient.

So what is to be done?

Go to past papers and find what type of questions are asked, le me help you.

  1. The questions on foreign policy/ies of Pakistan and other major Nations i-e US, UK, Russia and China.
  2. The Geo-strategic issues of Pakistan and Geo-Strategic importance of Pakistan
  3. Security Issues of Pakistan and World
  4. Social Issues
  5. Regional conflicts i-e Kashmir issue, Tibet conflict, Tamil Issue etc.
  6. Regional organizations and their role i-e SAARC, ECO etc
  7. UN, NATO, WARSAW pact etc.

Now keeping in perspective above mentioned umbrella topics, find what is going on latest about em....and be analytic and critical in your approach while attempting the paper.....Be Natural, your sounding superfluous may undermine your chances to score good.

Best of Luck

Dear member,

Since time is short and task is huge!
And as rightly said by senior member mr.bilal hassan, that "we have to be smart"
So though generally i don't suggest using notes of some one else, because they are good for the one who actually prepares them; but i have seen mr. hammad haider's "golden notes" on current affairs. If you are from lahore and can obtain them, would be quite useful in handling CA paper!

I would not forget to suggest here, that try to develop your analytical thinking and ability to write in your own style. so that even if you read similar material like many others, you still succeed in creating a difference!

Regards
