CA Preparation

For current affairs, if u can regularly read paper its good, but if u cant than go for the monthly of current affairs of dr. safdar mahmood or bimonthly of contemporary affairs by imtiaz shahid or herald or economist or the press review by ispr. Choose any one (or 2 if u have time and stamina) and stick to it i.e be a regular viewer of it. Don’t do like this that u r reading one on one day/ month and other on another day. It will disturb u as different styles and policies will overlap.

Make points if possible, if not than make cuttings from paper and place them in a folder and highlight imp points. Preserve them topic wise. This is a time consuming thing but pays a lot in the end. If u read monthlies than mark imp points there and then.

Judge ur self,if u r a person who can remember points of current affairs for long than don’t go for the material, read it and than don’t preserve it. Mostly with a 4-5 months practice one gains ability to preserve things in mind much better than in notes, folder or monthlies.

Further for current affairs view tv channels programmes of current affairs, if possible. Again view only selected ones and don’t waste ur time all day watching tv. Fix ur hours for it and go for programmes u could grasp and not for what is popular or suggested.

For all the selection above try to be with in limits according to fluctuating government policies. Don’t go for anti govt programmes and monthlies. View them if have time for critical approach but never rely on that information.
Provided that I am a science student and I gained what I told u on my own experience, but I must suggest u to go for second opinion.

Newspaper is very informative and effective source of knowledge. But for those who are preparing for CSS,its relevant pages and the relevant material therein can be of great use.
DAWN is recommended. Its FIRST and LAST pages. Then EDITORIAL AND OPINION pages. But remember only those opinions which are related to the topics you are preparing for.And WORLD IN FOCUS.Again the selected and relevant articles.INTERNATIONAL news page must be glimpsed.
Then come the weekly issues.Economic pages on Monday are very important. And for more enlightenment ENCOUNTER.
One priciple which should be kept in mind. The articles, analyses etc. are merely the opinions and not necessarily totally correct. So try to sift the opinions to suit you.

Dear, the current affairs (GK-II) is considered as a low scoring subject and it becomes very difficult for one to secure more than 50 marks easily, however, it is not a dream which cannot come true.

While starting preparation for the current affairs (or any other compulsory or optional subject) the foremost thing is checking the syllabi, after going through the syllabus one gets basic knowledge of the course contents of the subject. The syllabus of current affairs contains, inter alia, foreign policy of Pakistan and her relations with the big powers, Muslim world, neighbors etc. articles coming in the daily newspapers etc.

Actually the examiner wants to check the knowledge of the candidate for world affairs and of current scenario and his/her grasp in the subject.

In this year the trend has been changed and replica/copy of current affairs can be viewed by seeing the question papers specifically the essay, Pakistan affairs and islamiyat etc. Most of the questions in these papers revolved around the current affairs per se the importance of current affairs cannot be under-estimated.

For preparation of current affairs, benefit can be taken from a number of sources, some of them are outlined below :

- Strategic studies digest by Institute of Strategic studies, Islamabad
- Development & Security Digest issued by FRIENDS Organization
- Contemporary Affairs by Imtiaz Shahid
- The Dawn
- other journals like Herald, Economist etc.
- some sayings/quotes of famous statesmen etc. may be learnt by heart and an appropriate one can be used while answering the questions

Hope the above could be of help for preparation of the paper
