established: on 8 December 1985

founder: Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Maldives, Nepal, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka

For: promotion of economic and social progress, cultural development, relations

Default Literacy rate among SAARC countries

Sri Lanka = 91.2%
India = 76.04%
Pakistan= 56.9%
Maldives= 99.2%
Nepal= 60.30%
Bhutan= 47%
Bangladesh=56.80%
Afghanistan= 28%
So, among SAARC countries "Maldives" has the highest Literacy Rate.

Brother, in books i have studied that among saarc countries literacy rate of Sri Lanka is high..please can you provide link..

*First SAARC conference was held in Dhaka
*total 8 members of SAARC.
*Last member to join SAARC is Afghanistan in 2007.
*members of SAARC:

*chairman of saarc council of Ministers is H.E. Dr.Abdul Samad Abdullah from Maldives(He is also minister of foreign affairs,Republic of Maldives
*Former Chairsperson of SAARC council of speakers,Meira Kumar proposed name of Fahmida Mirza as Chairperson.
*Fahmida mirza elected unanimously chairperson of SAARC council of speakers in November 2012 by members of council.
*Meira Kumar(INDIA) was Chairperson of SAARC council of speakers before Fahmida Mirza.
