Russia Needs to Satisfy US on its Political Leaning

Today the way Mr. Putin is trying to save Syria is the result of unwanted expediency of Russia in the past. This expected blatant aggression or pose of aggression of US against Syria could be diverted if Russia could dare to speak openly as she is doing today.

In my opinion the role of opponents of US about Libya has encouraged US to break the international law about which Russian president is clamoring today. United Nations Security Council Resolution 1970 was a measure adopted unanimously by the UN Security Council on 26 February 2011. It condemned the use of lethal force by the regime of Muammar Gaddafi against protesters participating in the Libyan civil war, and imposed a series of international sanctions in response.

Similarly United Nations Security Council Resolution 1973, on the situation in Libya, is a measure that was adopted on 17 March 2011. China and Russia abstained but the resolution formed the legal basis for military intervention in the Libyan civil war, demanding "an immediate ceasefire" and authorizing the international community to establish a no-fly zone and to use all means necessary short of foreign occupation to protect civilians. Now what are the moral justifications left for Russia to oppose US move against Syria?

The resolutions of UN Security Council like 1696 (31 July 2006), 1737 (23 December 2006), 1747 (24 March 2007), 1929 (9 June 2010), 1929 (9 June 2010), 1984 (9 June 2011), 2049 (7 June 2012), 2105 (5 June 2013) against Iran, are all about either monitoring of Nuclear program of Iran or imposition of sanctions on Iran. Russia and China both voted in favor of these resolutions.

This cooperation of Russia and China on Security Council level has made US an ogre of Middle East. US has all those pretences which were unopposed by Russia and China in case of Libya and Iran?

The pro-Russian and Chinese scholars have always advocated bringing issues to UN, because it binds the hands of US and gives an opportunity to Russia and China to solve the issues by negotiations. But here the international interests bind the hands of Russia and China to oppose US at UN, and US gains a moral justification to rule the world.

It is better to use international norms to stop US than coming in front of US. But here the need is to show a visible political strength against US to stop it twisting arms of the weaker nations. The powers that made US ogre of the Middle East have the guts to stop US. Any expediency at this stage will unquestionably lend a hand to US to make its hold strong to decide the future of the boundaries of Russia and China. Russia will have to come out from its lair to gain control of the nearby region.

Apparently it seems that this time US is not able to gather international support for this adventure. Hostile role of Russia may isolate Russia itself but this region needs the same aggressive attitude of Russia that it exhibited in the past. Once US is defeated on international forum to collect support for attack then from here the downfall of uni-polar world will start. The need is that Russia remains consistent and China lends her a hand to pave the way for multi-polar world. China too must adopt a crystal clear stance in case of US attack on Syria.

Mr. Putin’s new stance of convincing Syria to hand over its chemical weapons in international custody has at the moment diverted the threat of US attack but I fear that the power hungry US may bring about change in its stance once the issue is brought to international forums. Though the international media has dubbed this new stance as escapism of president Obama but I don’t see any compulsion of US in this matter. Still US is more powerful than its competitors, still it has a powerful military, the Arabs are standing beside US, and the powers which are opposing US are still its major business partners.

US does want to be a dominated power in the world and this compulsion will induce US to find a way of using force in Syrian matter. Now it is the test for Russia and China to satisfy US on its political subjugation. It is the only way out to save the world from the dust of wrecking US hegemony.

Russia Vows to Protect Int’l Law against “Controlled Chaos”

MOSCOW - Amid a looming U.S. strike on Syria, Russia vowed Monday to protect international law and the UN Charter against attempts to create so-called “controlled chaos.”“If someone believes the controlled chaos will be more useful than respect to international law and strengthening of the UN Security Council (UNSC) and UN as a whole, we can’t agree with that categorically and will do everything to protect international law, UN Chapter, UNSC prerogatives,” Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said after meeting his South African counterpart, Maite Nkoana-Mashabane.

He warned that the looming military strike against Syria announced by Washington would delay or even eliminate the prospects of holding the Geneva-II conference for solving the Syrian crisis.U.S. President Barack Obama on Saturday announced that he has decided to take military action against Syrian government targets and sent Congress a draft resolution that authorizes a U.S. military strike over the alleged use of chemical weapons by Syrian government near Damascus on Aug. 21.The U.S. Congress reconvenes on Sept. 9 after the summer recess.

“The longer we delay (the Geneva-II conference) and the longer those who can influence the opposition (in Syria) fail to compel it to give consent for the conference, the more civilian casualties will be there,” Lavrov warned. He described allegations that Syrian government used chemical weapons as“groundless.”“It is necessary to find out who has done that.

The experts must have their say and submit all facts to the UNSC,” Lavrov said, noting that the latest Group of Eight summit urged a professional investigation of any reports of chemical weapons use.Russian President Vladimir Putin on Sunday rejected as “utter nonsense” U.S. allegations that Syrian government forces have used chemical weapons.

Putin argued that it would make little sense to use the weapons as government forces are on the offensive. (Xinhua)

Afghanistan-China Relationship Entered a new Phase

friend in need is worth thousands. President Hamid Karzai is paying an important four day visit to China, an emerging economic power of the world, to discuss a range of issues, including enhanced political, military, economic and cultural relations.

The relationship between Afghanistan and China passed through historic ups and downs in the past, formerly it has irreversibly improved. Throughout history, the relations between Afghanistan and China mostly involved trade of fruit and tea via caravans through Xinjiang and the Wakhan Corridor on the border between the two countries.

Karzai, heading a high-level delegation comprising of National Security Advisor Rangin Dadfar Spanta, Minister of Mines and Petroleum Wahidullah Shahrani, President Advisor in International Affairs Yahya Marufi, Abdul Karim Khuram, chief of staff of the president's office, and the chief presidential spokesman Aimal Faizi, were received by the Shaanxi deputy governor and Afghan Ambassador to China Mohammad Kabir Farahi at the airport, according to Presidential Palace’s statement.

During the visit, both sides will sign two memoranda of understanding on financial assistance to Afghanistan, extradition of prisoners and cooperation between Kabul and the Xi'an University of China.

Karzai would meet his Chinese counterpart Xi Jinping, Premier Li Keqiang and other host leaders during his second trip to China in as many years.

With exception to being emerging economy, China is great military power, too. Government records 70 Afghan military officials are under training in China and up to 45 police officers being trained on fighting drugs and riots. It is said that the number of officers would reach 250 by 2015.

Afghanistan may seek China’s aid in technical and human development sections. Since 2010, China has increased its economic aid and investment in Afghanistan, notably with announcement by Metallurgical Corporation of China (MCC) pledging $3.5 billion to develop Aynak Copper mines. China has the potential to make important contributions to Afghan stability.

President Karzai should urge Beijing to help train and equip Afghan security forces, invest in the war-torn country, step up the development of the Ainak Copper Project in Logar province and discuss China's interest in exploring fuel and gas at the Amu River base.

State-owned Chinese corporations are uniquely risk-tolerant and can help pave the way for future investments. The Chinese also enjoy a more positive relationship with Afghans, making their investments less likely to be targeted for attack by insurgents. These investments can stimulate economic growth which aid money alone cannot do.

China is an industrial state and owns large number of trained and skilled human potential that can be taken advantage of. China has ever put forth her cordial support to people of Afghanistan which manifest its selfless cooperation to Afghan government. It is high time Karzai must talk for enhancement of trade with Repulic of China than seeking for aid.

Afghanistan War to End Next Year: Obama

WASHINGTON - The war against terror in Afghanistan would come to an end by next year, US President Barack Obama said Tuesday.

The United States was transferring Guantanamo bay detainees to other countries, Obama said in his address to the UN General Assembly in New York.

“Next year, an international coalition will end its war in Afghanistan, having achieved its mission of dismantling the core of Al-Qaida that attacked us on 9/11,” he said.

Five years ago, he recalled, nearly 180,000 Americans were serving in harm's way and the war in Iraq was the dominant issue in America’s relationship with the rest of the world.

“Today all of our troops have left Iraq,” he added, as the US is preparing to withdraw its troops from Afghanistan. Obama argued new circumstances had meant shifting away from a perpetual war footing.

“Beyond bringing our troops home, we have limited the use of drones so they target only those who pose a continuing threat to the US where capture is not feasible and there's a near-certainty of no civilian casualties,” he said.

“We're transferring detainees to other countries and trying terrorists in courts of law while working diligently to close the prison at Guantanamo Bay,” continued the president.

His administration had begun reviewing the way the US gathered intelligence so that legitimate security concerns of citizens and allies were balanced with privacy concerns that all people shared, he explained.

“As a result of this work and in cooperation with allies and partners, the world is more stable than it was five years ago,” Obama maintained. (Pajhwok)

Nawaz to set up 'China Cell' in PM house

SHANGHAI: To follow up on all the projects signed during the
recent China
visit, Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif will set up a dedicated “China Cell” in the prime minister house.

Nawaz revealed this while speaking to the media from China on Sunday.
Thanking the Chinese authorities for their overwhelming response, Nawaz said all the projects – when completed – will be of great benefit to the people of Pakistan.
He asked the nation to pray that these schemes materialise soon and that no untoward incident cause a setback.

Stressing on the need to immediately end the ongoing power crisis, the prime minister said violence and power issues are linked and must be addressed simultaneously.

During his time in China, Nawaz called upon Chinese investors to invest in Pakistan, particularly in the energy sector.

The premier emphasised that the new government in Pakistan was pro-business and investment-friendly.

As part of an effort to boost the annual trade volume between the two countries from $12 billion to $20 billion, leaders from both countries had agreed to construction of economic and industrial cities in Gawadar and other parts of Pakistan.

They had reached agreements over the establishment of trade corridors and railway links as well as in the area of power development.

The Need for Social Consciousness

It is important for a human being to be well aware of the society wherein he lives. He needs to have such consciousness because it would be possible for him to understand his role, status, rights and responsibilities. In this way he would be able to play a positive role in the society.

Socio-political consciousness helps the individuals in the society to make maximum use of collective life as it is through social life that human beings have made marvelous achievements. The tasks and accomplishments, which are otherwise impossible to be fulfilled, become very usual and are attained without much effort through cooperative undertakings.

Socio-political consciousness is not one of the qualities that exist within human instincts. It has to be developed within him through proper nourishment and inculcation. Socialization plays a very important role in this regard. Children who are born in a society do not necessarily become social in the real sense of the word. Especially in today’s society when the people have become very much mechanical and materialistic it is difficult to find children get easily associated with the social and political groups. Social isolation is widespread and social interactions are now maintained through technology. In such a scenario it is really important that children are socialized appropriately and this has to be inculcated in them that their relation with the society is of great importance and they have a responsibility towards the environment wherein they live.

It is definitely easier to live a lonely life and always be confined to one’s comfort zone. However, it is really important for socio-politically conscious individual to come out of his comfort zone and be counted within the social life. It is also important that an individual should be the part of diversity, and must strive to intermingle with others so as to learn from them. It will also develop a sense of tolerance for others and supports in maintaining harmony.

Showing compassion and empathy can play an incredible part in getting closer to others and tightening the social bonds. Realizing the pain of others when they are hurt and understanding their position is really imperative to invigorate the social responsibility. Courtesy and responsiveness are also necessary in this regard. It is also important for an individual, who desires to develop socio-political consciousness, to be ready to listen to others and ask them for feedback regarding his attitude and behavior.

Nonetheless, it should be kept in mind that the boundary between what is social and what is personal should never be violated as it is one of the basic requirements of consciousness. Being overly social may disrupt the social bonds and affiliations, and may even generate conflicts.
