Quote:
Pardonable pride means pride which appears to be justified. Normally, pride is a negative trait. But in some cases, it seems fine to feel proud. Pardonable means "that which could be forgiven and tolerated". Example:- "His voice was melodious. The pardonable pride he took in his talent reflected obviously from his personality."

Seasonable Silence
Seasonable means some action that is the most appropriate depending upon the circumstances, something done or said at its proper time. When all of them were quarrelling among themselves for their respective shares of the inheritance, the seasonable silence of the eldest brother saved the family from falling apart. Divine Wisdom Divine means that which comes from God. "Khudai Maslehat" or would be a rough Urdu translation. She saw her husband's rejection by the interview panel not as his failure. Instead she comforted him by telling him that all of it was part of the divine wisdom and something even better must be waiting for him in the future. Temperate firmness Temperate means moderate. Firmness means "sakhti". She was not particularly a strict mother. But it was her temperate firmness which never let her children get spoiled. Effectual Remedy Effectual simply means effective. Promoting contraception would be the most effectual remedy of problems arising from overpopulation. Painfully Sensible This one doesn't make sense to me. Natural Impulse Impulse means a strong inner drive, desire or motivation to do something. When he proposed her, he was merely acting upon his natural impulse of pursuing love and companionship. Laudable Purpose Laudable means that which deserves praise. His aim was to build a local small-scale dam so that the village could have electricity. He has already started implementing his plans for this laudable purpose. Secret Contempt Contempt means a feeling that something or someone is not worthy and deserves scorn. Ali harboured secret contempt for his siblings because he considered himself most intelligent and hence most deserving of his parents' attention. Exuberant Joy Exuberant means lively, filled with energy. Samina was her best friend. Her exuberant joy at the wedding of her best friend was obvious from her body language that day. Invincible impulse Invincible means too powerful to be defeated. His invincible impulse to wield power and authority led him to his downfall. Serene beauty Serene means calm, tranquil. The serene beauty of the lake attracted hundreds of tourists every month. Guiding influence His father was the biggest guiding influence on his life. Superb Climax The game was taken to the end and it had the most superb climax. Grievously oppressed Grievous means very severe or serious. The local populace was grievously oppressed by their local, power hungry landlord who seized farmers' lands.
