Assalam O Alaikum..!!

After analyzing the past papers and current trend; Idioms are important in Precise and composition paper. It's also important to adore the english expressions and Urdu to English Translation. Considering this, I have decided to post 10 idioms daily along with meaning and use. It will enhance our vocabulary and beautify our sentence expression. If we have six months i.e. 180 days then total idioms will be 180*10=1800. I'll post these idioms alphabetically so that there'll be no problem to memorize and use them sequentially. Any rectifications are welcome:
Today's idioms are:

1-Abide By: ( پابند ہونا ، عمل کرنا ) (To accept and act in accordance with a decision or set of rules or remain faithful with laws and rules)
A trustworthy man abides by his word. Or Citizens of a country should abide by the laws of their country.

2-About time: (گزرا وقت ) (Long Past the right time, Something that should have happened long ago)
It's about time that women were not equal to men.

3-Above all: (سب سے بڑھ کر ) (More than anything else)
A winter hike calls for good equipment, but above all it requires careful planning.

4-Above and beyond: (کہیں زیادہ) (More than is required)
Putting in overtime without pay is above and beyond the call of duty.

5-Above board: (بلا شک و شبہ ) (Above Suspicion)
The government have brought numerous radical changes in country, above board they have alleviated poverty.

6-A breath of fresh air (نئی اور مختلف چیز ۔ خوشگوار اضافہ)( a change that feels good)
The president says that the country needs a breath of fresh air.

7-A clean bill of health (ایسی رپوٹ جو صحت مندی کو ظاہر کرے) (said when someone or something is healthy, in good condition, or legal.a green chit)
The president was given a clean bill of health by his doctors.
The company received a clean bill of health because it fulfilled all the safety requirements.

8-According to Hoyle (اصولوں کے مطابق) (In keeping with established rules)
The tax records are in excellent order, all according to Hoyle.

9-Ace in the Hole ( کسی چیز کو خفیہ طور پر رکھنا ) (A hidden advantage or resource kept in reserve until needed)
The five thousand rupees I kept in my shoe, is ace in the hole and i will spend them when no one lends me.

10-Ace it: (کامیاب ہونا ) (Accomplish something with success)
I'm not worried, I always ace it at job interviews.

11- Ace Out (، خوش قسمت ) (to be fortunate or lucky, To get through narrowly.)
I really aced out on that test in English.

12- Ace out (of something)/ Ace out (Someone) بار بار بچنا ، ہرا دینا ) (to get out of something through luck/ to win out over someone) :
I just aced out of having to take the math test!
Martha aced out Rebecca to win the first place trophy

13-Achilles' heel(وہ جَگَہ جو سَب سے زيادَہ کَمزور ہو) (A fatal weakness, a vulnerable area) :
This division, which is rarely profitable, is the company's Achilles' heel.

14-Acid test (اصل امتحان ) (A decisive trial to determine worth or quality) :
Exposure to brilliant sunlight is the acid test for showing this fabric won't fade.

15-Acquired Taste ( وہ شے جِس سے اِسی طرح لگاو پیدا ہوا ہو) (Something one learns to like over a period of time rather than appreciates immediately)
Because it is so salty, caviar for many individuals is an acquired taste.

16-Across the board (کسی خاص جگہ یا گروپ کے ہر فرد پر اثر انداز ہونے والا منصوبہ یا صورت حال) (Applying to all the individuals in a group,)
They promised us an across-the-board tax cut after our repeated protests.

17-Act of God (فعل خداوندی, قدرتی آفت ) (An unforeseen and uncontrollable natural event, such as a hurricane, fire, or flood) :
The publisher shall publish the work within twelve months except in case of delay caused by acts of God.

18- Act one's age (سمجھدارنا رویہ اپنانا ) (Behave more maturely)
The parents asked their 40 years old son to act his age, when he started crying after losing his wrest watch.

19- Act out: (برا رویہ اختیار کرنا ) (To misbehave, Perform, Express unconscious feelings)
The child is acting out/up in class. (Act up=Misbehave)
As she read to the class, the teacher had each child act out a different character in the story. (Perform)
She acted out her anger at her father by screaming at him.

20-Add Fuel to Fire/Flames: ( جلتی پے تیل کا کام کرنا ) (Worsen an already bad situation)
Ali was angry, and your making fun of his mishap just added fuel to the fire.

21-A dime's worth (معمولی ) (an insignificant amount)
At best, he'll make a dime's worth of difference with his interference in the affair.

22-A lost ball in the weeds: (متذبذب )( a person who is completely lost or confused) :
I got confused as to what I should do. I was a lost ball in the weeds.

23-Add insult to injury (زخموں پی نمک چھڑکنا ) (make a bad situation worse)
Not only did the club refuse him, but it published a list of the rejected applicants?That's adding insult to injury

24-Ad nauseam(اُکتانے کی حَد تَک, قابل نفرت حد تک) (To ridiculous excess)
I wish he'd drop the subject; we have heard about budget cuts ad nauseam.

25-Afraid of one's own shadow (آسانی سے ڈر جانے والا) (Very timid and fearful)
Richard constantly worries about security; he's afraid of his own shadow.

26-After a fashion/Sort (نامُکَمل طریقے سے, کسی طرح ) (Somehow or other; not very well):
John can read music,after a fashion.

27-After one's own heart (پسندیدہ ) (To one's own personal liking)
He's very patient with the slower pupils; he's a teacher after my own heart.

28-After the fact (رونما ہونے کے بعد ) (After an actual occurrence, particularly after a crime)
I know the brakes should have been repaired, but that doesn't help much after the fact.

29-Against all odds (تو ا قعات کے خلاف ) (In spite of seeming very unlikely)
Against all odds we had a snowstorm in early May.

30-Against one's better judgment (نہ چاہنے کے باوجود ) (Despite serious misgivings):
I lent him the money against my better judgement.

31-Against one's will (رضا مندی کی خلاف ) (Without one's consent)
The defendant knew he could not be made to testify against his will.

32-Against the clock (بہت جلدی) (In a great hurry, as fast as possible)
With her term paper due on Monday, she was racing against the clock to finish it.

33-Against the grain (قدرتی طبع کے خلاف ) (Opposed to one's inclination or preference):
We followed the new supervisor's advice, though it went against the grain.

34-Ahead of one's time(وقت سے آگے ) (In advance of current ideas, customs, or methods):
His treatment of light showed this painter to be well ahead of his time.

35-Age out of something(عمر گزر گیی) (Age passed which is suitable to get something)
He has aged out of the special student scholarship program.

36-Ahead of the game (اگے ہونا ) (In a position of advantage, especially financially; succeeding or winning)
If we can sell 2,000 units of this product by next month, we'll be well ahead of the game.

37-Air one's grievances (سب کے سامنے شکایات شکایات کرنا ) (Complain publicly)
Jane was afraid to complain at work but freely aired her grievances at
home.

38-Albatross around one's neck (گلے کا توک) (A heavy burden of guilt that becomes an obstacle to success):
The failed real estate scheme
became an albatross around her neck, for now she could not interest other investors in a new project.

39-Alive with (بھرا ہوا ) (Teeming with, full of)
After the annual stocking, the pond was alive with trout.

40-Alive and kicking/well (ٹھیک ہونا ) ( to continue to be well, healthy or successful.):
Don't worry about your grandfather; he is alive and kicking.

I've known he was innocent all along.

42-All along the line/ All the way down the line(ہر بار ، ہر لمحہ ، بار بار ) (At every point, stage, or moment):
We've had problems with this supplier all along the line.

43-All and sundry(سب لوگ ,ہر عام و خاص ) (One and all)
The salesman gave samples to all and sundry.

44-All but (تقریباً) (Nearly)
Society is all but rude, To this delicious solitude.

45-All ears (دھیان سے سننا ) (Listening attentively)
Tell me who else was invited? I'm all ears.

46-All for (کسی چیز کے حق میں ہونا )(Completely in favour of something)
I'm all for eating before we leave.

47-All for the best/ For the best (بری صورت حال کے باوجود بہتر ہونا ) (Best in the long run despite appearances to the contrary)
They had to sell their business, but since they weren't making money it's probably for the best.

48-All gone (سارا استمال ہونا ، سارا ختم ہونا ) (Completely finished or used up)
There's no milk left; it's all gone.

49-All hours (رات گے ) (late at night):
College students like to stay up talking until all hours.

50-All in (تھکا ہوا ہونا ) (Be tired out, exhausted,)
I can't walk another step; I'm all in.

All in all our trip to Europe was a success.

52-All in one piece/In one piece (سہی سلامت) (Entirely undamaged or unharmed)
Given all the airport delays and bad weather, we were glad to arrive all in one piece.

53-All joking aside/ All kidding aside (سنجیدگی سے ) (Seriously):
I know I said I'd quit, but all joking aside this job is too much for one person.

54-All out(پوری طاقت سے کوشش سے ) (With all one's strength, ability, or resources)
They are going all out to make the fund-raiser a success.

55-All over but/bar the shouting (یقینی نتیجہ ) (The outcome is a certainty)
When Jim hit the ball over the fence, it was all over but the shouting.

56-All right for you (ناراض ہونا) (I'm angry with you)
All right for you?I won't go out with you again.

57-All roads lead to Rome (سب راہیں دِلی کو) (Many different methods will produce the same result.)
So long as you meet the deadline, I don't care how much help you get?all roads lead to Rome..

58-All shook up (جذبات میں آیا ہوا, پریشان ) (Greatly disturbed or upset)
His letter left her all shook up.

59-All is well that ends well (انت بھلے کا بھلا ) (Everything has turned out satisfactorily, even though the outcome has been uncertain.)
His lawyer persuaded Jack to plead guilty, but the court merely put him on probation? All's well that ends well.

60-A hot potato (اہم موضوح) (A burning/Hot issue)
The most recent attack on Airport is a hot potato these days.
