Confusion about 'ise' and 'ize' words
 

I have been using various English words on a pattern of US English. However, I have got control over words ending with 'our' e.g behaviour, colour etc. But, I am quite confused about 'ise' and 'ize' monaply between two schools of English. I went through official Oxford website and search for 'Visualize' and it returned

US: Visualize
UK: usually 'visualise' in UK

Again, I went through Oxford's official blog and they say that there is nothing wrong in using 'ize' or 'ise' in these words. However, 'our' words are not comprised. Does anyone know the significance of these 'ize' and 'ise' pattern? Am I scratching my head too much?

No, it's ok. I fretted over it too.

Here is the thing.
Pakistan follows British system of writing. Our English textbooks are the examples of that. However, when you move to a university, you end up reading books that are American and in universities, teacher (unless they are English language teachers) don't mind the American spellings if the grammar is correct.

CSS exams technically should also follow the British system but if you look at the English papers, these are a confused mixture. That brings me to your question.

In British language, it is "-ise"; "-ize" is American.
Globalisation, not globalization (though css papers sometimes have z)

You already mentioned the "our" thing.

There is a "c" and "s" thing too.
Defence is British, defense is American. We follow defence.

In Precis paper, we follow spelling rules of British but quotation rules of Americans. For instance, we should be writing single quote not double quote for dialogues but we do.
'You are a good person.' is British.
"You are a good person." is American.

I have to recheck this as well but usually, precis paragraphs are often american with -ize.

Oh, one thing more. As a rule of thumb, if the question paper has "globalization" then you are going to use globalization, not globalisation. Once you use a certain spelling then you keep sticking to it throughout the paper. If you are using American spellings, stick to them throughout. Do not do the 50-50 thing.

Use -ize if it is in the question paper. If it is not and you are following British spellings in your answer sheet, you will use -ise. I hope it is clear now.
