Books for English II

Dear All,

At last, as a begining to my preparation I am using following books for English paper II at the moment:

Exploring the World of English
High School English Grammer and Composition by S. Chand
Practicle English Grammer
Practicle English Usage
Precise Writing by R. Dillion
Though there is a number of good books but these are the books that are recommended by most of senoirs and forum members.

Is there any suggestion to use some additional books or these books will be enough for preparation?

Your comments and suggestion will be of prime value to me and other aspirants.

Kind Regards

@Omer
The books mentioned by you are more than enough for the preparation of English precis paper...
in fact you don't have to study so many books for english grammar, but if you do have enough time, then go through them...
but at the same time, practice the FIRST 3 Questioons i.e; Precis, comprehension and Expansion, 'cause it has 65 marks to it...
just practice these questions from the past papers along with studying these books...
and don't waste your time on memorizing the idioms and the GRE word list... as it is a wastage of time.
As far as I think, idioms usually come from the current topics in the International magazine like Economist, Newsweek etc, so do study these mags for your Essay, Current Affairs, as well as English.
The idea is to work smartly :))
Hope I have been of some help to you.
Regards,

Attention All Aspirants

salaams and dua for all,

Dears the most important thing to do for english is not to study lots of books. The thing is to learn and use English, and good English, rather impressive English. for this purpose u need to practice rather than collecting lots of ideas and different author's opinions and works. u ar not doing some Phd thesis that u study such books, and in quite this great number..

For me, Exploring The world of English will do the job, and of course Michael Swan's How English Works. These two books are more than enough dears..

Just pick up the past 10 years papers and start attempting them, but make sure that u have learnt the techniques of how to write precis and how to attempt comprehension... After having learned the techniques, just start practising on a blank paper, Blank Paper ok? Not lined paper, cos in CSS exam the paper of Answer books is Legal Size blank paper... do get started with writing from now and dont crack yr heads by lookin for books in the markets. cos it wil waste yr time.. dont be crazy for books, just be crazy for knowledge, which u can get even from one book...

Furthermore, i'd advise, work Smarter rather than harder...

Using more than one book (max 3-4) on a single subject is recommended by most of the qualifiers as it will give the aspirants a detailed knowledge of the subject.

This point has also been mentioned by FPSC once, that candidates are using some specific books in which most of the material is not upto date and severe mistakes were found in the most recommended books. For that reason, if you have a look into the css recommeded books by FPSC, you will get 8-10 books on each subject.

My view is that, though practice makes a man perfect, an aspirant should have a strong basis of the subject first and then practise. Reading more books will give more confidence and it pays in the exam.

Obviously, working smart is the golden rule here but working smart should not mean working short.

Attention Omer

Sweet Omer,

I'm sorry when u needed my timely reply but i was off for a while from the forum.. well, lemme make it clear that working smarter never means working shorter, but lemme ask u a simple question, 'how long have u been studying English?? i'm sure for more than 14years, isn't? so?? hey guy come on just dont spend too much time on this english. the only thing u need here is trust in yr memory and knowlege. well, if u talk about css, i guess none will advise u to study 15hours for English daily.. cos its not worh that. CSS needs an English which is CSS specific yar. its not an English to be used in lets say a research thesis on Genetics or psychology. its all about yr syntax and vocabulary yar so why make that big monster out of it.. may be i'm underestimating yr fears for the preparation but i just feel that reading articles and editorial wil never go a begging. they definitely add to yr overall competence of the language. the only thing u need for precis and Essay papers is strengthen yr writing skills which can come to you through reading only and then practice. there are no hard and fast rules for u to follow this syntax structure and not that... try to understand.. dong look around for more books yar my friends have suffered alot due to this 'disease'.

again i'd say work smarter than harder ok?????

hope u gettin't.

Regards,

Cosmic libertine
