Default Narrations - Time allowed: 2 calendar days

This space has been reserved for narration exercises. I urge everyone to participate in the tests heartily.

Change the narration from direct to indirect or indirect to direct speech.

1). Our sociology professor said , ‘I expect you to be in class every day. Unexcused absences may affect your grades.’

2). My father often told me , ‘every obstacle is a steppingstone to success. You should view problems in your life as opportunities to prove yourself.’

3). When tom asked Jack why he could’nt go to the game, Jack said he didn’t have enough money for a ticket.

4). When I asked the ticked seller if the concert was going to be rescheduled, she told me that she didn’t know and said that she just worked there.

5). Ali said, ‘I must go to Lahore next week to visit my ailing mother.’

6). The policeman told the pedestrian, ‘you mustn’t cross the road against the red light’

7). Ahmed asked if what I said was really true.

8). Sarah wanted to know where they would be tomorrow around three O’clock

1) Our sociology professor said that he expected us to be in class every day and unexcused absences might affect our grades.

2) My father often said to me that every obstacle is a stepping stone to success and I should view problems in my life as opportunities to prove myself.

3) When Tom said to Jack "why can't you go to the game", Jack said "I don't have enough money for a ticket". (I differ with Naveed on 'when')

4) When I said to the ticked seller, "Is the concert going to be rescheduled?", she said to me "I don't know" and said "I just work here".

5) Ali told that he had to go to Lahore next week to visit his ailing mother.

6) The policeman informed the pedestrian that he mustn’t cross the road against the red light.

7) Ahmed said "Is what you say, really true?". (I differ with naveed on a 'coma')

I agree totally on number 8 with Naveed.

Regards,

4: I asked the ticket seller "is the concert going to be rescheduled?", she said "I do not know, I just work here."

5: Ali said that he needed/had to go to Lahore next week to visit his ailing mother.

6: The policeman told the pedestrian that he/she should/must not cross the road against the red light.

Unnecessary death and suffering is forbidden in the Intl Humanitarian law.

Why should you be antagonized? (Unneccessary subject could be ommitted in the passive voice [A Practical English Grammar A.J Thomson])

Let us tell Manchoo about the jokes of Mulla Nasiruddin.

Why the government has not constructed the roads in this part of the country?

Let your time not be killed by roaming......

A large sum of money is being drawn.......

They/ He / She ... couldn't complete the arrandements.............

Let your house be built.........

I'm anxiously waiting for the corrected alterations....and for the 2nd part,,,let it be solved by someone under a more desperate compulsion to improve his/ her grammar

1. Actions leading to unnecessary death and suffering are forbidden in International Law.

2. Why should you be antagonized by me?

(Let A.J. Thomson think what he thinks. He will die with that misunderstanding .

Naveed, what if I ask you to change the voice of your correction, will you be able to add the subject 'I' in it? I would still demand some personal explanation for this OFFENCE )

3. Absolutely agreed to Naveed.

4. Absolutely agreed to Naveed.

5. Do not let your ability be killed by roaming in the streets.

[Brother Naveed, has substituted the word 'ability' with 'time' absent-mindedly. Naveed bhai, kahan kho gaye thay? ]

For the rest, in complete agreement with Naveed.

Busharraf, your turn. I understand your tactics of bugging the seniors here. Now take it straight... the next time you post exercises... put in your own answers first. Hahahahah!

Ok Bhaiyoon... abhi ke liye itna kaafi hai. I will answer the next exercise after Busharraf bhai is done with it.

Regards,

PS: My competence in these activities can be judged by the incident when I applied for teaching at a school. The headmaster served me with a paper replete with narrations and voice exercises. And yes, in the end, I didn't get the job. :P

Adil Bhai Michael Swan in his book 'Practical English usage ' has also given the same reason,,,,,now if its wrong w.r.t Pakistani English than please come up with the logic with which u wanna refute these Gora dim wits

But anyway you are also right in a sense that these subtle pronoun differences are also to be told from each other ,,,,,,,,,in my case i agree to your correction
