Its said by William Wordsworth in one of his famous ODE TO IMMORTALITY
that "child is the father of man" where he meant that during childhood a child is closer to God and nature ,he is pure ,because he has not been corrupted by the malicious forces of the world and as he grows he is changing and getting lost in the wordly affairs like every other man so a child is a fther of man in terms of being close to God as its not been very long that he came to this material world |

The child is father of the man
It's a stanza from a poem by William Wordsworth:
MY heart leaps up when I behold A rainbow in the sky: So was it when my life began, So is it now I am a man, So be it when I shall grow old Or let me die! The child is father of the man: And I could wish my days to be Bound each to each by natural piety This could be expanded in many dimensions. For instance: This expression means that our psychology established during childhood, all our positive and negative traits are established when we are young. Traits and habits acquired during childhood remains with us lifetime. In this way, childhood got precedence our manhood and child leads the man in later life. Another dimension: Once Abraham Lincoln said: "A child is a person who is going to carry on what you have started. He is going to sit where you are sitting, and when you are gone, attend to those things which you think are important. You may adopt all the policies you please, but how they are carried out depends on him. He will assume control of your cities, states and nations. He is going to move in and take over your churches, schools, universities, and corporations. All your books are going to be judged, praised or condemned by him. The fate of humanity is in his hands." In this way, a child as judge of man's action may be termed as "The child is father of the man".

Meaning of this proverb is:
It is the spontaneously unselfish love of the small child which makes the transition to full adulthood possible. Of course, this love does often tend to be overshadowed for a time by the almost too rapid growth of the competitively-trained adolescent intellect, and this unbalance of mind and heart surely accounts for a great many of the pains of adolescence. Yet to the degree that we guide our actions by our earliest, grandly unselfish, outward-reaching love -- now immensely strengthened and broadened by our knowledge and experience -- by so much does the true adult come to birth within us. I believe in this lies the inner meaning of the old saying that the child is the father of the man |

in urdu it is priverb "honehar bervay ky chikney chikney pat' means habit, attitude and inclination ,mentality of child shows how he will be in youth .so in my interpretation child is father of man means in childhood we can guess what abilities he will have as a man.it is my own thought so may be wrong.

Child is the father of man...
It is important to GET the meanings of the various terms, that is father, child and men in somewhat different relationship. At the same time,we have to,for the time being, forget about the status of child and father to each other as we have in this physical world.
Child overhere mean experience, mistake and learning from mistakes.Father mean telling you the right things, making you to learn through experience.Man can be called is one who is comparatively well learned. Now what this maxim well mean is that it is childhood which ultimately makes a perfect man. So,it is in this sense that child is the father of man.

'The Child is father of the Man'
Introduction
The famous proverb ‘The Child is father of the Man’ is written by William Wordsworth through his famous poem ‘My Heart leaps up’. The poet through this line tries to say that the basic nature of a man gets developed in his/her childhood itself. When he was a child, he used to enjoy nature and even when he has grown up as an adult, he enjoys the nature. Because enjoying the nature or rainbow is his basic character which got developed when he was a small child. Meaning The proverb became highly popular due to the deep meaning hidden inside the line. It means that the core personality of a person gets developed since one’s childhood and it majorly depends upon the upbringing one gets at home and the teachings one gets at the school. Thus, based on the kind of upbringing and teaching, the individual develops positive or negative personality traits at the later stage of one’s life. Also, by looking at the child’s behaviour, one can identify what kind of person one is going to be. Even from the learning perspective, whatever learning, education and knowledge one gains in the childhood remains with the person forever. A child is considered to be the source of learning for the adult. A child is innocent and full of life, but when he grows up as a man, he tends to lose the charm and innocence due to various responsibilities and hardships. But the poet did not lose the childhood charm; he enjoyed the rainbow even as a grown up man. Likewise, each individual must enjoy life without boundaries and pressures like a child does. Like morning is the base of the day; childhood is the base of the overall personality and character of a man. Childhood activities influence the activities and performance of a man. If a child gets healthy environment and grows up amongst the motivational and cheerful people; he is certainly going to become a happy and confident person and if a child is brought up in a chaotic atmosphere; he will grow up to be a rebel. That’s why it’s been said that the child is the father of man. It’s the responsibility of the parents and teachers to control their actions and words and inspire the children to learn good habits right from the beginning; because children are fast learners and their knowledge remains with them for their lifetime. A person is not only responsible for his own conduct but his conducts and behaviour reflect the society too; hence it is important that the child is taught good moral values and to perform good deeds so that the child can make the world a better place to live in, when he grows up. Conclusion Some people, despite having healthy upbringing and delightful memories during childhood tend to become a serious and quiet person; there is no harm in enjoying the nature and every little things like rainbow, butterfly, birds, etc; because they not only please you without costing anything, but they also maintain your innocence and childhood. A man must always remember that his personality must portray his childhood.
