Perhaps, I am wrong.
According to Wren and Martin book.
A Simple present becomes a simple past.
A present continues becomes a past continues.
A present perfect becomes a past perfect.
who had born him and nourished him.
How did you change past indefinite into past perfect? A present perfect becomes a past perfect. Think about it.
There was a question mark in direct speech. Was it not better to use ASKED instead of TOLD?
Thanks.

Seniors sweep away my mistakes. =)
Past indefinite can be changed into past perfect, it matters not.
WAS THERE MISTAKE OF HAD IN ANSWER OF MINE?
I await you.

"the prince said , ' how can i turn away the mother , who born me and nourished me ?"
the sentence itself has a grammatical mistake. one can not say "born me". A person is born. a mother gives birth. a mother does not born someone. I believe the word you're looking for is borne that is the past participle of bear.
@nice051
"prince told (me) that he could not turn away the mother who had born him and nourished him."
by adding not you're changing a positive sentence into a negative one.
The correct answer is The prince asked how could ( simple present into simple past) he turn ( no change in past perfect) away the mother who HAD borne and nourished him. ( borne and nourished are both simple past tense and simple past changes to past perfect)

@ Alyosha
Thank you heaps for the correction that you made.
But the sentence didn't have a "?" at its end, so it doesn't look like a question.
I think "said" would remain unchanged.

Check the very first post it does have a ?
On second thought, shouldn't TURN which is simple present be changed to turned? but then writing "how could he turned" is incorrect, therefore I'm assuming turn used in relation with could becomes simple past tense which according to the rules would change to past perfect therefore the answer should be: The prince asked how could he had turned away the mother who had borne and nourished him.
Does that make sense or am I over thinking it?
