English - The Problem

SALAM..

Afshan

Note the following points

1 All the four skills of english - Speaking, Reading, Writing and Listening must be developed simoultaneously.

2 Start from Wren And Martin's "High School English Grammar". Buy its key too. and solve atleast 2 exercises daily.

3 Use a Headfone to listen ARY(Eng. news)/BBC (Not cnn at the beginning). As you listen, try to write down what ever you listen. It will make you concentrate more. Select one presenter as your favourate and try to copy him/her when you speak. This will make you learn some of his/her sentenses and phrases, and would help you improve.

4 Speak English most of the times. Find a friend or two for this purpose.

5 Speak before the mirror. Try to act as an orator before yourself. If you can speak in fron of yourself, you can speak to anyone.

6 Write at least 2 pages daily, and get them checked by someome at ease with english.

Do it for 2 months and that is all..!!
Hardwork, and self confidence is the key.

Do feel free to ask any other queries.

Take care
Allah hafiz

AoA,

agreeing to the views of mohiuddin,

adding something dear afshan u may like to get 'guide to better english by Mr. B.R. Mullick'

and u may use headphone for listening news at beginning, but leave the practice after some time and try to concenterate more and more in open environment

also read articles/opinions/encounter/editorial of the dawn and underline the difficuilt words. you may keep a note book/rough papers with you and write down the difficuilt words there and check out their meaning in the dictionary after reading out the articles

Salaam Fellows,

I believe the guidance required has already been given and its really naive for me to poke my nose into the solved case. But i'll still prefer to continue irrespective of conditions!

Well, all that makes a difference is the TIME the learnt have spent learning. The hint here for you is to waste some time learning english. Learning is an evolutionary practice. You can't become a master over nights. The fellows here are very competent and well-learnt.

I will suggest you to stay around in the company of the well-learnt people. Try reading and writing English from the sources of verified quality (just like www.dawn.com).

Besidse all that... let the time pass. You will start feeling different within a while!

Develop some confidence in yourself and never underestimate yourself!

PS: I developed my english by talking to people in English Chatrooms (don't tell anybody... it was a sheer wastage of time... but today i'm here).

Regards,
Adil Memon

All this was meant to serve no other purpose than to help you!

Dear Bro, adnan the book you have mentioned is not meant for the beginners. It is a valuable knowledge-source nevertheless.

Dear Brother Mohiuddin,

I am so sorry to say that I disagree with you at this point. That book is perfect for any beginner - advanced level guy. Infact, 90% people recommend that book for CSS.

And by casting a glance at sister's (Afshaan's) post, I can envisage that the recommendation is perfect. She has some understanding of English and that book won't be hard enough to swallow.

@ Sister:
One more thing... I forgot to mention in my previous message!

In case you don't have anyone with whom you could practise your spoken english you can load the slot of "INTRAPERSONAL COMMUNICATION" in your "MIND". It helps me a lot, so its another recommendation for you!

Regards,
Adil Memon

Thanks to all. Now, i will start reading newspapers thoroughly and i will say one thing that it is very difficult for me to hear news. I can't bear it. I am already reading a newspaper, this much news is enough for one day. ;)
