Preparation for CSS 2008, Suggestions and comments
 

Hi guys i have got idea to improve our use of English. As you know that when we post something on the css forum; other readers quickly grasp our aptitude of writing English. Why not check one another's English and point out weak points for a constructive criticism. This would be useful in many ways e.g. we will be improving our English along with discussions. It will give us a chance to do some research on our weak points and in this way we can make those areas strong. I will not start any such activity until i am told about my weaknesses. Still that does not mean that others are willing to be criticised (means constructive), so i wont start unless other colleagues volunteer their participation for this thread.
There would be some rules for this activity.
1. This activity would be carried out only under this thread and nowhereelse on the forum, so that we dont mess up normal discussion.
2. There would be no slang or any unacceptable use of criticism or words.
3. The only purpose was to improve our English and not to post idioms, proverbs etc. For that we can go to our threads as there is much information and posts available for that.
Any more ideas and suggestions

Hmmm good idea indeed! But English Precis and Composition will be better area for the thread. Further, i couldn't understand, how you're going to find out mistakes. I think in order to find such we should have a piece of writing (a short one). Well, waiting for some piece of writing for the post mortem.

yes i should explain how it would work

for example have a look at the above post by me

if you start looking from the first sentence there is a use of the word IDEA without AN before it. (We could ask ourselves whether the use is correct or incorrect)

Then in the same sentence there is a use of SEMICOLON. (is it correct or should i use COLON etc)

Then there could be the issue of question marks in the paragraph if some sentence is starting with Why, what, when, how etc.

In the same was mistakes can be pointed out in the current post.

That is what i thought but obviously there could be better suggestions that is why we are here for

The idea of writing paragrph or solving some past papers is also good one.

However what do you think about the above explanation

I support ur idea. I hope other worthy members ll show their willingness too.......i have spotted a grammatical mistake in ur rule no.3........wherein u have written," the only purpose (is) was to improve our english." I think u have made this mistake deliberately.

Indeed, its good idea to make and correct the sentence and then the whole para............... i will participate in it............its chance to improve and learn more ... Good and keep it up

I m truly adherent of above precious idea. I was seeking for such reforms from a long while . I m going through grammatical weakness . I just want a favor that we must act upon this idea at an specific avenue otherwise it ll b confused. Moreover who catches the mistake of one , ought to counsel the way to refrain from it.

no doubt its a wonderful idea and i really appreciate it.in this way we can help others in improving their languauge and definitely others will help us.sometimes it so happens that the statement we write is not appropriate but we are unable to point out the exact mistake...others will help us in this regard.

the basic thing is that even if u discussing casually u need a topic the purpose...!
the idea of a para and then correcting it according to our abilities would be better
