Grade my Comprehension of CSS Past Paper 1982

2. Read the following passage and answer the questions that follow:

After a situation has been carefully analyzed and the possible outcomes have been evaluated as accurately as possible, a decision can be made. This decision may include the alternative of not making a decision on the alternatives presented. After all the data that can be brought to bear on a situation has been considered, some areas of uncertainty may be expected to remain. If a decision is to be made, these areas of uncertainty must be bridged by the consideration and evaluation of intangibles. Some call the type of evaluation involved in the consideration of intangibles, intuition, others call it hunch on judgment, whatever it be called, it is inescapable tat this type of thinking must always be the final part in arriving at a decision about the future. There is no other way if action is to be taken. There appears to be a marked difference in people’s abilities to come to sound conclusions, when some facts relative to a situation are missing, those who possess sound judgment, are richly rewarded. But as effective as as intuition, hunch on judgment may some times be, this type of thinking should be reserved for those areas where facts on which to base a decision, are missing.*

a) How is it possible to come to a sound decision when facts are missing?

b) What part in your opinion. does decision making play in the efficient functioning of an organisation.

OR

Bring out the implications of the following observation.*

Traveller, there is no path:

Paths are made by walking.

Answer (a) Before reaching to a sound and an assertive decision, all the bare facts must be analyzed critically from each and every perspective. Sometimes, the facts, which stand in front of our analyzing power, have some shortcomings. In order to overcome these unforeseen, to some as they may put it, the institution of intuition comes at the forefront. Based upon this, people use power of 6th sense, as controversial as it sounds, before reaching to a final conclusion so it may be free from error and doubt. Whereas others put their bet on the horses of judgments where the galloping facts are cross-examined and cross verified. The most important, and the ultimate decision is the one which accounts for, not only the above mentioned two dimension of decision making but the ability to take risk is equally critical in finalizing the decision which ultimately stem fruits. As they say, higher the risk higher will be the return.

Answer (b) In an organization, the Individuals, groups and organization itself, are the key stakeholders to any decision-making process. It is imperative to take the view points and reservations of all of the three entities mentioned above, because their experiences and credentials will speak volumes in decision-making of an organization. Hence, an efficient decision is the one in which there is a win-win situation for all those who have something at stake with the organization. Without their valid inputs or the audacity of sole decision making by any higher or superior executive authority, the organization will cease to exist. It is an undeniable fact that the above mentioned power players of the decision making process will either lead the organization to its new frontiers or it will soon meet its fate.

Are these questions answered in so much brief account?
I think they should be answered in two-three lines.

The answer (a) is best but more extensive.
The Answer (b) is from your personal knowledge and not from the given paragraph.According to the paragraph without making decisions actions can't be performed, hence decisions are very crucial for efficient functioning of an organization.
