Plz comment: Eternal vigilance is the price of liberty

"Eternal vigilance is the price of liberty"?

Pearl buck has pointedly marked “When good people in any country cease their vigilance and struggle, then evil men prevail.”It behooves people to do care about those whom they elect,for their material being and well being.Leaders,who are elected by a segment of society are believed to be sincere to the cause of general welfare,who are made to act in a certain way to serve the people in the context of objectivity.Outwardly,public's immediate response against any event or tempted action on the part of their leaders,is of greater importance.Reaction,criticism,comments,protests and chanting slogans are the necessary evils to stunt the maltreatment of leaders.General awareness to the ultimate cause make people more considerable in the eyes of their rulers.Nations,who are ruled by the rulers without their intrinsic consent or in absence of their visionary check,are made to act against their will.People face transposition of governance,experience their exploitation and see their fates being trampled down,if they become fail to notice the deeds of their ultimate supervisors.Evils take roots in societies,where its members tend to become mere door nails.Their snail research regarding governmental activities and lack of penetration in national and regional affairs bring them down to ashes.Resources would be then utilized by the leaders at their disposal.People might be trapped in between the giant and cruel jaws of exploiters,their wings might be plugged and their freedom be snatched.Leaders become plunderers of physical and psychological desires,when they find their followers popped in hibernation.On the contrary,nations who have a sense enough to impress upon their leaders to act what they desire, yield more results.Their natural and inalienable rights are then protected by their rulers.Their opinions are regarded and venerated before shaping any sort of policy.Plans are then sketched not in smokescreen of personal interest,but are justified in the light of public interest.Impulses then play their role in keeping a perpetual pressure upon decision makers.Liberty then becomes the upshot fate of the public and a bright future is supplemented to their experiencing lives.All these can only be done,if the leaders are kept in check and warding them off against any mis perception regarding public vigilance.

Dear Alizai,

your arguments are valid. Whatever you wrote above is right but to whomever you wrote does also matter.

Thoughts are like a lake (jheel) in the mind. When you start speaking, a stream of thoughts begins to come down through that lake via your words. You speak those words in order to express your feelings, show your emotion and concern, for rectification of someone's behaviour or for your own catharsis. Definitely, the words spoken does matter a lot but to whomever they are spoken matters too.

To me, the words spoken for rectification of someone's behaviour (not for internal catharsis) are the only words which impresses someone.

You might be thinking my words are deviating from the topic but they are not.

Your article and arguments are very much right in its own. The words, arguments, propositions, and the premises, all are valid and true. But they will be beneficial only when someone acts on it ( in other words someone got impresses or influenced by them).

I will make direct discussion on your topic in my next post.

@R A Alizai

A very good expansion with smooth flow of ideas. I really liked its coherence and connection between thought. However, one thing I noticed is that you have focused only on one idea i.e. the need for people's vigilence about their leaders in a democracy, but I think you could have incorporated more ideas like, vigilence in terms of external threat, against one's ownself (I mean to correct one's own behaviour), internal threats to the country and so on.

Despite this, I think you may get something about 6 to 8 marks in 10.

Straight to the Topic

To keep the leader on track people's vigilance is one thing but the internal vigilance of the leader by the leader himself is another and the most important thing.

Islam provides us with a dual vigilance system. One is the vigilance of the people-who can very easily be deceived and are being deceived in so called democracy. Second is being aware that Someone else is watching me 24 hours a day and escape from His vigilance is by no mean possible.

When the people are in hibernation and the society also turn its face towards secularism then how come the vigilance system work? In such situation and condition only Might is Right (a very good example is Pakistan itself, being neither Islamic and neither completely Secular). Our system is half breed.

Democracy will work, only when the people are vigilant. The people will be vigilant only when they start indigenous research into everything. This indigenousness of knowledge is the key to the development of a society, economically, politically, socially and culturally.
