HELPFUL GUIDE FOR WRITING

1.list various subjects that you could write about. choose one subject; then list all the ideas that suggests.
if your assignment is a definite subject , begin by listing your ideas on that subject.
2. write with a definite purpose__ to entertain, to instruct , to surprise,...
3. make a simple , easy-to-follow outline.
4. work with care on the first paragraph:
a). waste no words in unnecessary introductory remarks.
b). dont puzzle the reader. as near the beginning as possible , make clear just what you are writing about.
5. using your outline , write the composition quickly first; then go over it, revising untill you are satisfied that you have made your best effort.
a) USE VIVID WORDS AND EXPRESSIONS.
i.choose strong verbs. for example , in the sentence " he looked at me", more vivid words would be PEERED, GLARED, SQUINTED.
ii.use specific nouns , not general ones. example : hundreds of poppies(not flowers) flamed along the wall.
iii. use the words that sound like what they mean. example: zoom, crackle , bang , quack
iv.use original comparison . Example he has ears like question marks
v.use words that apppeal to five senses; that is , words that will help one to see,feel, hear , smell, or taste. whatever,it is that you are describing.
b) ELIMINATE ALL UNNECESSARY IDEAS AND WORDS.
WORDY: our dong whined in a pleading manner when i went to the door to let him into the house this morning.[21 words]
BETTER: our dog whined pleadingly when i let him in this morning [11 words]
6 select the orignal and attention-catching title. " Mr.crewcut," for example , is better title than "our neighbour"
7. proofread your paper ; that is , look for and correct any careless mistakes in capitalization, punctuation,spelling, general manuscript form.
