Can anyone correct these sentences?

3. The hostel provides lodging and boarding to students.

6. He is one of those who always succeed.
7. The black vermin is an odious creature.
8. What to speak of meat, even vegetables were not allowed there.
9. The criminal was sent to the gaol.
10. The firm was willing to forgo its usual commission.
11. This is the historical spot where he was shot dead.
12. I don't remember him giving me a present.
13. Passing by the damaged house, a brick fel on my shoulder.
14. The idea of me flying is too silly to even contemplate.

these sentences have been taken from previous papers of English Precis and composition. Almost all of them seems correct to me. Can you find out the mistakes?? plz correct them if you can. And if they are correct, how the solve them as they might come in exam??

All of them look OK to me. However, if I HAD TO make some changes, I'd make the following. Isnt it true that sometimes they put the correct sentence in there? These might actually be the correct ones.

British English follows the traditional pattern, whereas american can use his as well.

Im not an expert at this, but I only know a rule, and that is never change the meaning and vocab in the correction and stick to adjusting grammatical mistakes only (like you did no should be ommitted or replace show with introduced, it will change the entire meaning of the phrase in question)

here is my try:

1. someone showed the visitors to the room. (to the room)
2. it is wrong to be devoted to lying and cheating. (take out very , dont change any original words)
3. Until you remain idle you shall make no progress (the sentence is assertive so replace "will" with "shall", i guess)

P.S.: Please guide me with these things, cuz I am no good at English and I need to learn a few things before exam
