Shortest answer is NO. There are hundred thousands of words. One could not remember them all. Best way is to prepare them from past papers and while reading newspapers or books mark complicated word and remember their meanings.

There are two types of words that come up in the English exam. Difficult words that are in use in current writing (meaning you can find them in Dawn) and difficult words you will never come across unless you study the GRE word lists (an example is "Paroxysm"). You can check the difficult words asked in past exams, you will find that many of them are present in the Barons 3500 GRE word list. Studying high frequency lists from Kaplan and Manhattan would also help.

If it is an easy year for English then yes. If it is a difficult year like 2016 then you need to study at least the Kaplan 900, the Manhattan 1000, and Barons 800 and 333 word high frequency lists. Ideal preparation will include the barons 3500 as well.
I should mention that there is a lot of crossover between the lists, as in many words are repeated. So while at first glance it seems that you have to study 3500+900+1000+800+333 words in actuality you only have to study around 3500-3900. take it at 20 new words a day and you should be done by the time of the exam. |
