Grammar Queries from Wren and Martin Book
 

I bought the Wren and martin book for grammar and started it yesterday. I have a question and hope someone can clarify.

Exercise 2, Question 6.

It [I]weighs [/I]about a pound.

Is [I]weighs [/I]a verb or an adverb?

The solution manual says it is an adverb in this case. I was also of the opinion that it is a verb. Let's see if someone else can give a different point of view. Otherwise i'll just assume the solution manual is wrong.

Off course it is verb. You can sense by the meaning of sentence. Moreover, it is weighs not weigh. Weigh with (s) is present indefinite tense as singular noun (it) is used. If weigh is to qualify for adverb it must have adjective or verb with it.

sorry! "it" is personal pronoun. not singular noun.

s shows it is a verb

Then I am assuming the solution in the solution manual is wrong.
