Present Continuous Tense Usage

Present Continuous Tense Usage:

It is to be noted that all English simple sentences have SVO structure.
S subject ( Doer of an action, a noun / pronoun) + V verb ( action, state of action ) O Object ( receiver of action, noun/ pronoun)

1:Continuety of an event or action:
Present Continuous tense is used to show continuity of any action or activity
• I am playing
• It is raining
2:Unfinished action
Present continuous used for something happening at the moment of speaking. These actions usually last for quite a short time and they are not finished
• I'm chairing the conferees right now.
• Please slow down the speed of car as pedestrian are crossing road at the moment
• Saman is singing a song at the concert.
3. Temporary situation
We also use present continuous tense to talk about temporary situations, even if the action activity isn't happening at that moment.
• Ali is working as a junior clerk until he finds a suitable job. (He might not be working now.)
• Adil is going out of station for an official task .
it is clarified here that simple/ indefinite tens is used for permanent situations which may continue for a long time.
• I live in Pakistan. ( this is a permanent situation, my home country.)
• I am living in Uk. (it is a temporary situation, i may move to anywhere else in future.)
4: Temporary habits

We can use the present continuous for temporary or new habits (for normal habits that continue for a long time, we use the present simple). We often use this with expressions like 'these days' or 'at the moment'.
• He's is disturbing me a lot these days. ( not usually just in these days)
• She's making noise all the time. (she didn't use to do this).
• Qasim is smoking too much after his failure. ( not a chain smoker, but now a days)
5: Annoying habits
Present continuous is used for habits that are not regular but someone do that very often or about any habit that's annoying.
• He is forever losing his temper!
• you are constantly failing the exams.
• sadaf is always rebuking!
6: Define future plans
Continuous tense is also used to show future planning In this case we have already made a plan and we are pretty sure that the event will happen in the near future.
• I'm flying for China by the next week.
• He is visiting me next weekend
Structure of Present Continuous Tense
A. Simple sentence
Subject + auxiliary/ helping verb (is/are/am) +V (simple / 1st form + ing/ Present Participial )+ Object
Ali is swimming in the pool.

If subject is singular Aux/ helping verb "is" is used. In case of Plural Subject "are" is used as Aux/ helping verb. For pronoun I , we use "Am" as a Aux/ helping verb.
B. For negative statements
S + is/are/am not + V ( simple / 1st form + ing/ Present Participial) + O
you are not paying your fee .

C. For simple interrogative sentence
is/are/am + S + V ( simple / 1st form+ ing/ Present Participial) + O
Are they wasting their time.

D. For Negative interrogative sentence
Is/are/am +S + not + V ( simple / 1st form +ing/ Present Participial) + O
Am I not helping you.

D. Complex interrogative
If your Question start with any of W ( who, why, where, what, when, how) then
format would be
CI+ is/are/am + S + V ( simple / 1st form + ing/ Present Participial) + O
