Where was a very different atnosphere in the town this morning than yesterday.

Regds
Sentence # 5:'Different' doesn't take 'than' in BrE though it is possible in North American Verbal only. Secondly 'Where' in the last sentence seems to have been wrongly used since it does not give out a perfect sense as the sentence does not end at a question. Thus, the correct sentence should be as under:
"There was a very different atmosphere in the town this morning from 'as' was yesterday "
Remember that using 'that of yesterday' has now been equalled to using apostrophe s but it is not necessarily important in the above structure.
Sentence# 2: There is no any contraction in English such as 'Shalln't' instead we could write 'shan't' as a contraction of 'shall not'. And, we can not put a comma before 'if'. Interesting thing is that if we do not change 'shouldn't, the sentence will remain grammatically correct.

Them. Those two essays are identical.
If you want to use "that" or "it" instead, it goes like this: "I compared his essay with Mushtaq's and found it almost identical to the one written by Mushtaq.

Yes, It is. But it seems incorrect to use them.

I compared his essay with Mushtaq's and found them (THAT) to be almost identical.

I may be wrong.
