Verbs showing motion are called dynamic verbs and showing no motions are called static verbs. Furthermore in and on are static and into and onto are dynamic prepositions.

IN AND INTO:
Preposition in shows completion and rest.

Example:

They boys were in the room.

It means the action of the boys being in the room was complete when we talked about this action and since the action is complete hence it is showing no motion.

Preposition into shows progression and motion.

Example:

The boys were walking into the room.

We may say that in is static preposition and into is a dynamic prepositions and as a rule dynamic verbs are followed by dynamic prepositions and static verbs followed by static prepositions.

Preposition on is used with the material things/to show position.

The student was sitting on the chair.
Her name was written on the case.
There was a book on the table.

IN AND AT:

Places having boundaries take position IN with them.

We may be in this world/country/desert/forest.

Whereas with small area we may use preposition AT. It would mean at this point

We can be at house/building/office/school.

Free Thinker: Room and Earth are totally different things. I still disagree with your correction.

Room is a socket like structure so I don't doubt that the appropriate preposition would be 'in'.

I hold all your sentences in the next post as correct. Actually, I have never heard the preposition 'in' being used with Earth. I am not authority at all and would be really glad to learn.
