You are right that we have to use one conditional word in a sentence.
But, i was not sure for the actual use of or in it, because or was giving sentence another sense if you read it again... THanks for clarifying it..

7. People said, “Would that the Quaid-e-Azam were alive these days to see our fate!”
8. They applauded Imran exclaiming that it was a great shot

the word this will remain the same as it's pointing towards present thing.

No need of word exclaiming and subsequently great. It's not wrong but stretched beyond its limits.

Yes the first one is also right but i noticed the senior teachers always suggest to write like this"it was a great shot".... They applauded imran that it was a great shot.
