Precis 2016
Suggested Title: A Tour to Cherokee
The author had difficulty in deciding an abroad and breathtaking place for his yesteryear's May vacation till his friend suggested him Cherokee, Oklahoma. In Cherokee, they landed in a paradise-like town, Qualla Boundary, in a valley. There Cherokee presented them its history with exhibition of 'Oconaluftee Indian Village' and a week-long historical show 'Unto These Hills'. They visited souvenir shops with the help of a native despite language barrier. Then they met George, a middle aged fluent English speaking tourist, erstwhile a woodcutter, who invited them for a lunch. He told them that besides trade, Cherokee earns through 'Bingo Weekend' during tour off-peak days. Huge crowds of people gather at Bingo entertainment hall for various games on every Friday afternoon of the Bingo Weekends. Finally, they visited the art museum of Qualla Boundary. The author missed Cherokee back at home and anticipated to visit another foreign place. |

By the way, I am not able to understand the purpose of putting this precis in here. Do you want to offer this precis for critical review? If that is the purpose, then do paste the original passage. Or if you want this precis to be a guide for novices, then still you need to have the original passage pasted before the precis. |
Well! Sir, I appreciate your advice. I thought original passage is not required here. It's one of the recent past papers, and I believe everyone preparing for precis must have these papers already.
Nevertheless, I shall paste the original passage in future. Moreover, I would appreciate your feedback on my writeups, please evaluate them. |
Sure I will.

Sir, kindly give your feedback on this precis.

Focus on these things instead of mentioning all those places. You have described events and places in your précis, requirement was to write down how author felt after going to these places. In short you are missing the main point as said above. When I wrote this précis first time, I did the same mistake, then realized I am looking at wrong direction. Précis can't have this much places and events, main point is to analyze feelings and emotions of an author. |
I have a question regarding precis,as it is recommended that use substitutes for more words, it can limit words range .... But are those substitutes are not the difficult words, and we are advised to use simple words..... Kindly explain this point...
|
I partly agree with you. This might be the case that I would have expressed the emotions and experiences of the author. However, there is no harm to mention the places and to give spatial references, as far as they are pertinent to the actual theme.
I hope you would agree on this note. Thanks for your sincere feedback. Appreciated. |
Yes, you should use substitutes, insofar, they are relevant. Such words may be difficult and new for us, but they are not for the examiner. So feel easy to use them.
Correct grammatical use is expected in the examination. Whether we express our ideas in simple words or in complex way. |

These words are really difficult for us but not for the examiners..... One more query if you can reply.. Can we quote examples in Comprehension question,or simply rewrite the statements from the original passage, into own words...? |
Yes, we can quote examples in comprehension, as far as I have learnt, but if deemed necessary. Otherwise, it's better to answer in your own words and understanding, because that's why it is a question of comprehension. The examiner wants us to write what we have comprehended from the given passage.
You can add extra, but relevant, information to your answer as well. whether it was given in the passage or not. Remember, it must be pertinent and should substantiate your answer. |

CAN YOU GUIDE ME ABOUT THE LENGTH OF AN ANSWER IN COMPREHENSION, AS THERE ARE MANY TUTORS WHO RECOMMEND VERY BRIEF (2,3 SENTENCES) AND OTEHRS SAY A COMPREHENSIVE ANSWER (ABOUT HALF OF A PAGE) |
Foremost thing is to answer exactly what is asked in your own words regardless of length and number of sentences.
What I do is to write a comprehensive, detailed, answer, so that it may cover all dimensions of the question. Resultantly, it becomes a short paragraph, covering almost 2/3 of a single side of a page. Moreover, as per my mentor's advice, I give heading to each answer in comprehension section. This also makes my answers look longer. |

Some few persons can do this, May you get whatever you strive for.. Are you going for 2022 attempt? |
Ameen. Thank you for your kind prayers.
