What will be the Precis of CSS 2008 Paper

Dear Seniors/Members, What will be the Precis of the folloing passage of CSS 2008 Paper and title for it?

Objectives pursued by, organizations should be directed to the satisfaction of demands resulting from the wants of mankind. Therefore, the determination of appropriate objectives for organized activity must be preceded by an effort to determine precisely what their wants are. Industrial organizations conduct market studies to learn what consumer goods should be produced. City Commissions make surveys to ascertain what civic projects would be of most benefit. Highway Commissions conduct traffic counts to learn what constructive programmes should be undertaken. Organizations come into being as a means for creating and exchanging utility. Their success is dependent upon the appropriateness of the series of acts contributed to the system. The majority of these acts is purposeful, that is, they are directed to the accomplishment of some objectives. These acts are physical in nature and find purposeful employment in the alteration of the physical environment. As a result utility is created, which, through the process of distribution, makes it possible for the cooperative system to endure.

Before the Industrial Revolution most cooperative activity was accomplished in small owner managed enterprises, usually with a single decision maker and simple organizational objectives. Increased technology and the growth of industrial organization made necessary the establishment of a hierarchy of objectives. This is turn, required a division of the management function until today a hierarchy of decision makers exists in most organizations.

The effective pursuit of appropriate objectives contributes directly to organizational efficiency. As used here, efficiency is a measure of the want satisfying power of the cooperative system as a whole. Thus efficiency is the summation of utilities received from the organization divided by the utilities given to the organization, as subjectively evaluated by each contributor.

The functions of the management process is the delineation of organizational objectives and the coordination of activity towards the accomplishment of these objectives. The system of coordinated activities must be maintained so that each contributor, including the manager, gains more than he contributes.

@ Precis 2008 Exams

Dear

as the seniors are not free i think its an ample opportunity for a junior member like me to post my answer as when the seniors come i may be able to get their responses for the corrections if present there in my post

For Seniors

i am posting my precis for the above mentioned purpose so plz help in this regard as i am appearing in 2009 and twice failed the subject.

Title: Organisational Objectives

Organisational objectives are formulated on the basis of human needs. organisations are means of exchanging utilities. contributions to sorroundings are the parameters of success of an organisation.

Hieararchy of objectives and management functions are the results of organisational and technological growth when compared to the small organisations of pre-industrial revolution.

Manament Processes are responsible of efficiency of an organisation. They set and accomplish the desired goals through co-ordinated approach.

Hope to hear from the seniors soon.

Beat Regards.

@ Sadiq

Good attempt.

One thing i would like to point out that no matter how many paragraphs a passage has but precis is always written in a single paragraph.

here i have to disagree.
i dont think that it is necessay to make precis in a single paragraph.
it can be divided if it demands.otherwise, it is good to precise it in a single paragraph.

@sadiqkhattak

Brother your subject is very good....nice attempt:8:

Precis should not contain more than a third of the number of words in the original passage..
while doing precis everyone should keep these questions in their minds:

1-what is it i am reading?
2-what does the author mean?
3-what is his subject?
4-what is he saying about it?
5-can i put in a few words the pith of what he say??

Title: Efficient Organizational structure

Precis:
Organizations should go through the needs of humans. Industrial organizations, City commisions and Highway commissions conduct surveys for the betterment in their concerning areas. Organizations' accomplishment depends upon the acts involved in the process to produce a utility.
Modern technology has replaced the older structure of organization where decion-making was in one hand, while the newer one involves a chain of decison makers in this process.
By arranging coordinated activities, organizations meet required targets and each contributer gets more than his contribution.

@ all Members
Please have a look at my precis (Post # 6), as i haven't done BA or BSc but BS(CS) and have no past precis writing experience, so your corrections will be heartly regarded and helpful for my career.

@ sadiqkhattak
good attempt, keep it up!
and I also agree with Last Island's pint of keeping precis in a single paragraph.

@ Chauhdary12,
nice attempt but need to review the title, as focal point of the passage was not the structure of organisations but "Organisational objectives and their pursuit". Sentences like
Modern technology has replaced the older structure of organization where decion-making was in one hand, while the newer one involves a chain of decison makers in this process
can be made more concise. Pithy and sententious expressions are the beauty of a precis. Practice can make this strenuous task achievable.

Assalam-u-Alaikum to all
is it necesssary in precis writing to start with the words like " the writer says" or "the author says" or to mention the person whom passage is going to be concise?

what is beter (i) To use small sentence (ii) or to make large sentences using conjunctions?
where to mention title in answer sheet means before starting preicis or at the end?

@chaudhry12.

It is not necessary, rather it is prohibited :). Remember Precis in not a summary or something like that. In it you just have to condense what you are given in about 1/3 of its original length without missing the essence of the Original passage.

There can be difference of opinion, I think that one should use short sentences. But the most important thing is to convey the gist of the passage using minimum number of words.
I think that title can be given at the end or in the begining. It is your choice, as far as i can remember i wrote it at the end of the Precis.

Precis should be one paragraph containing the important points of the text. Believe me, it is nither written in points nor in prargraph. Write a precis in paragraphs in CSS and you will fail. No marks will be given.
