It is not luck but labour that makes men. Luck says an American writer, is ever waiting for something to turn up: labour with keen eye and strong will always turns up something. Luck lies in bed and wishes the postman would bring him news of a legacy; labour turns out at six and with busy pen and ringing hammer lays the foundation of a competence. Luck whines; labour watches. Luck relies on chance; labour on character. Luck slips downwards to self-indulgence; labour strides upwards and aspires to independence. The conviction, therefore, is extending that diligence is the mother of good luck: in other words, that a man’s success in life will be proportionate to his efforts, to his industry, to his attention to small things.

PRECIS:

a famous saying ; A man makes his fate by himself . indeed it is struggle and hard working that makes a man perfect.no doubt a self-made person more diligent and determined than a lucky one.luck provide chances while struggle creat them.therefore a man success depends upon his commitment to work along with his efforts...

please seniors guide me about it ............
I don't think one needs to give reference of "famous saying".And by shouldn't be used with "himself"

First letter should be capital after full stop.

"Hard work" is more appropriate.

person is more diligent

provides

Creates

man's success

You must give "title" to your precis.

Nice effort.Keep it up

[QUOTE=Roshan wadhwani;342656]Original Passage: (369 words)

England has won the Jules Rimet trophy—the symbol of world supremacy—after a thrilling final requiring extra time to decide the winner; it had not only the entire England and German road deserted but also kept 400 million television viewers on tenterhooks (to keep someone in suspense). In these days of charged (thrilling, electric) political atmosphere it is but natural for a country’s victory to be tarnished by charges of favouritism, unfair play and biased refereeing. England as the host faced most of these charges. England’s victory ever Argentina in the quarter-finals brought about a near revolt in the FIFA and irked the Latin American countries who felt that Europe had combined and loaded the dice against them. Perhaps never before were there so many shocks in a World cup as came this year. It started with the theft of the gold trophy and its strange recovery by a dog. No Englishmen will steal it now for the cup is proudly and rightfully won. Again the short odd favourites such as Brazil were literally booted out in the pre-quarter final stages as was another favoured football nation, Italy. The tiny North Koreans provided the greatest shock first by reaching the last eight and then by snatching an amazing three-goal lead from Portugal. The Koreans did prove that Asians, too, can play good football. Portugal produced ‘black panther’ Eusebio whose amazing score of goals rocked the world and knocked ‘black pearl’ Pele out of the “World’s Best Forward” citadel. The matches also produced rough play and a very large number of players were sent off the field and later suspended for ungamely play. England owed its success largely to good, efficient and combined efforts and a fine team spirit under the dictatorial guidance of the team manager, General Alf Ramsey who had predicted all along that England would win. The Victory has put England on top of the football world and it is perhaps only just, for it was England who gave the world this great and most popular game. And, in crisis-ridden England this is perhaps the happiest news for Prime Minister Harold Wilson who dashed back from Canada for the final. It may well prove to be a rallying point for the jittery pound.

precis..

England now the champion of football by winning the Jules Rimet Trophy.Not only the roads of England and Germany are vacant/deserted but also 400 million people watch this match live on television.England as a host has to face the allegations of favouritism,unfairplying and one-sided refereeing.The Latin American countries pointed out criticaly the combination of europeion countries against them and also the victory of England against Argenta.There are many shocking incident take place in the tournment like stolen of gold trophy and recovered by a dog,the knock out of brazil and itlay and the more shocking is the victory of north korea.This victory proves the ability of assian footballers.England's victory is the reason of combined and efficient effort along with the team spirit.The England's Prime Minister rushed back from Canada to watch the match.This victory may decrease the econimic crisis and stops the devalution of pound.

[QUOTE=Roshan wadhwani;342724]Original Passage: (287 words)

Nothing sharpens a man’s wits like poverty. Hence many of the greatest men have originally been poor men. Poverty often purifies and braces a man’s morals. To spirited people, difficult tasks are usually the most delightful ones. If we may rely upon the testimony of history, men are brave, truthful and magnanimous not in proportion to their wealth, but in proportion to their smallness of means. And the best are often the poorest—always supposing that they sufficient to meet their temporal wants. A divine has said that God has created poverty but He has not created misery. And there is certainly a great difference between the two. While honest poverty is honourable, misery is humiliating, in as much as the latter is for the most part the result of misconduct and often of idleness and drunkenness. Poverty is no disgrace to him who can put up with it, but he who finds the beggar’s staff get warm in his hand, never does any good but a great amount of evil.
The poor are often the happiest of people—far more so than the rich, but though they may be envied, no one will be found willing to take their place. Moore has told the story of the over-fed, over-satisfied Eastern despot who sent a messenger to travel through the world in order to find out the happiest man. When discovered, the messenger was immediately to seize him, take his shirt off his back and bring it to the Chief. The messenger found the happiest man in an Irishman—happy, dancing and flourishing his shillelagh. But when the ambassador proceeded to seize him and undress him, he found that the Irishman had no shirt to his back.

precis;

Poverty is the reason of success.Heroes of history born poor but with their spiritual nature accept difficulties and achives their goals.poverty provides the blessing of satisfaction as a divine said that God has created poverty but not the misery.Poverty brings positive changes while the result of misery is always humiliatig.With the inner satisfaction , the poor man is happiest one.As a story explain it that an eastren ruler sent a mesenger to caght and bring the happiest person to him.When the mesenger caught such person, he found that there is no shirt on his back.

[QUOTE=Roshan wadhwani;344430]ORIGINAL PASSAGE: (276 words)

In his life Rousseau was everything he should not have been. He was a failure as footman, as servant, as tutor, as secretary, as music copier, as lace-maker. He wandered in Turin, Paris, Vienna, London. His immorality was notorious—he was not faithful in love, and his children were sent to a founding asylum. He was poverty-stricken, dishonest, discontented and, in his last years, demented.
Yet this man, who knew so little how to live his own life, exercised a wonderful influence over the lives of others. Sordid as was his career, the man himself was not without beautiful and generous impulses. He loved nature in an age when other men simply studied nature. He liked to look at the clear blue sky, admire the soft green fields, and shapely tree, and he was not ashamed to confess it. The emotions had been forgotten while Philosophers were praising the intellect. Rousseau reminded the eighteenth century that after all it may be as same to enjoy a sunset as to solve a problem in algebra. Rousseau possessed the soul of a poet. Rousseau had seen and felt the bitter suffering of the poor, and he had perceived the cynical indifference with which educated men regarded it. Science and learning seemed to have made en only more selfish. Indeed, the ignorant peasant seemed to him humbler and more virtuous than the pompous pedant. In a passionate protest in his Discourse on Arts and Sciences (1749), Rousseau denounced learning as the badge of selfishness and corruption, for it was used to gratify the pride and childish curiosity of the rich, rather than to right the wrongs of the poor.

precis;

Rousseau was a failed person in every field of life as well as in his nature.But along with all of his failures, he put on a great effect on the lives of others.He was a great lover of nature and had a poetric taste so he wanted to enjoy the beauty of life.He was a poor man so he knew the bitterness of regret which has to face, from rich to poor.According to him modern education made a man more rude instead of polite.In his book he claimed that learning did nothing positive for poor except fulfilling the childish/rubbish desires of rich.

I am going to highlight your mistakes in bold letteres.

Rousseau failed in his life both objectively and subjectively.. but in spite of all his failures, he immensely influenced the lives of others. His mind was possessed with romanticism and was inclined towards poetry so he wanted to enjoy the beauty of life.He was a poor man so he knew the bitterness of regret and disappointing response of the rich towards the poor which he had himself faced. To him modern education made a man more rude instead of polite.In his book he claimed that learning did nothing positive for poor except fulfilling the childish desires of rich.
