Default Title: An inside into procedings of house of commons

House of commons is a unique place of self centered politicians showing little respect to each others repute. Lord melbourne when asked gave a witty comment on them as good proud fellows. Arogant Politicians express ego and always ready to hit others ego and point of view. Their old fellows, who once suported them does not want to listen them after having a political conflict. Those who listen them have motive of garbing others attention. Every one tries to address important issue just to attach them selves with hot issue. It is hard to understand that what function realy this house perform.

Default To sehar Sheik

I have also attempted this passage.

You repeated few words, we should try not to use a word twise until or unless it is very much required and we can not complete sentence without it.

your words are 99, we can afford margin of max 3 words.

Try to stck with original passage dont infer meanings, like turn out to be critic

and lastly do not comment on situation. You should read my passage tell me where I commited wrong, I shall Be happy. Your heading is ok.

I am very poor in english but I cleared both english papers last year. Your style is simple as that of me but remember using heavy words can not gurantee our success. The only thing that I follow is my own style. Most important is placement of words in good and right sequence.

Thanks for ure suggestions. My English is well, above average as I am a freelance journalist of DAWN and The News..

But Precis, comprehension and Essay are altogether a different story than writing an article. I am still learning the art of Precis and Essay writing.. I value your suggestions. Thankyou, Sir.

If you are writing articles in english than it is your strength, Because your vocabulary will support you. You have to practice precis again an again. First write a precis than study it and than analyse it and write another draft removing old mistakes. Daily at least one paragraph.

@Sehar Sheikh

Very good precis. Nothing much to be improved. However instead of using word "pride" in precis of house of commons, word "arrogance" would sound better.

3rd Para

In the competition of life he wins who can do the largest amount of work in the shortest space of time. That is why men use tools, which make one pair of hands to do the work of five or ten. The savage who scratches the earth with his bare hands has to give way to the man who drives the plough. It is not his physical strength but the tools that have enabled man to get6 the best out of cultivation, transport, and such activities as weaving, extracting oil, and making sugar. The plough, the loom, the bullock cart, the horse-drawn vehicle, and the oil press has all reduced time and increased output. They have made progress possible; otherwise there would have been little to distinguish man from the ape.

Man worked with his tools until the advent of machinery driven by steam and electricity. The small tool gave way to the big machine, as bare hands had given way to hands equipped with tools.

If this country is to survive, the time has come for our cultivators to be taught these facts. But it will not help to theorize only; the right answer must be found through actual practice. In Europe and America they have moved far in that direction. They plough and reap, bind the sheaves, and store the crops in granaries; all by means of machines. Adopted in this country, the process would have several advantages. Before cultivation can start, one has often to wait for the rains to come. If there is a brief shower on day, a small plot can be lightly scratched with the ploughshare. If, however, there is no rain in the weeks that follow, the sowing will be late, and the unripe corn may become covered with water in the late monsoon. There may be trouble at harvest, to; extra hands are scarce in the village ad men from outside have to be hired. Should there be a heavy downpour when the reaped crop is still lying in the fields great losses will result. On the other hand, with a mechanical plough and harvester, full advantage could be taken of every favorable turn in the weather; cultivation would be completed and the ripened grain gathered with great speed.

(words 377)

Machines: A boon for agriculture

Over the ages, human civilization has gradually moved from traditional hand-made tools to the latest heavy machinery. The advent of mechanic tools has made life easier for mankind. Machines have exponentially increased the efficiency of man. The progress that our kind has made due to machines distinguishes us from other living beings. Highly developed countries have employed modern agricultural techniques and advanced machinery to increase their agricultural produce. The same methods should be adopted in this country. It would be very advantageous to introduce modern machinery because a single machine will replace many manual workers. Sowing of seeds, harvesting and storage of crops would be done briskly. With machines, we would be better able to use weather changes for our benefit.

4th Paragraph

In former times when window-pane in your house got broken, you would call the glazier to put in a new one, or if your lights fused, the electrician would be sent for to put them right. Nowadays people are their own glaziers and electricians.

Before the war, when wages were relatively low, people did not think of doing these things for themselves, but during the war, when so many artisans were away in the armed forces, the master of the house had to undertake this sort of job himself. To his surprise he got to like sawing wood and gluing it, putting in new light fuses or new washers in running taps and all the hundred and one repair jobs there are to be done around most houses. By the time the war was over it had become a habit with him.

In the post-war period of full employment the number of artisans available is limited, many having found it more profitable to take work in factories, while those that are left are able to charge high prices for their services. Now that the householder has got the hang of mending leaking pipes and broken chairs, he sees no reason why he should pay someone else a lot of money to do something he really enjoys doing himself; and so in recent years the ‘do-it-yourself’ movement has grown rapidly. In the ironmonger’s we can buy sets of ‘do-it-yourself’ tools which include everything we may need for repairs in the home, and in the bookshops, books are also available to tell us how to use the tools we have just bought. So clever have we all become that we are no longer satisfied only with mending things, we want to make them too; and so, to cater for this demand, shops are now selling. ‘Do-it-yourself’ kit, which enable the man-in-the-street toi build anything he likes from a coffee-table to a sailing boat.

(words 320) Word limits: 107

Self-reliance for repairing jobs

In pre-war period, people used to hire the services of artisans for the repairing jobs. However, during war, many technicians joined army. Due to high wages owing to scarcity of workers, people started to do their mending jobs themselves. Gradually they found these jobs amusing and became self-reliant. After war, employment opportunities increased and previous artisans started working in factories for better prospects. Also, people were no more ready to pay for the jobs they enjoyed doing themselves. It gave rise to ‘do-it-yourself’ movement and now books and repair kits are available in the market to make mending easier. Now every man may become an artisan.
