What is Globalisation?
Dear members!
I want to know what exactly the scope of globalisation is. While writing an essay on globalisation, do we need to consider trade and investment as the driving force of globalisation or is it the technological advancements that have made globalisation a more discernible phenomenon? In my opinion globalisation is a process initiated by trade and investment and accelerated by information technology. Once the effects of globalisation gets entrenched, it ultimately leads to free trade. Kindly share your views about it and correct me if I am wrong. Thanking everyone in anticipation. |

Salam
Basically, Globalization means interaction among different people. Now the “different people" can be races, ethnicities, cultures, societies, nations etc.the interaction encompasses communications through technology, sea voyage, roads, airplanes, trains. Now the notion that trade and information technology are the potent factors surpassing others, would be oversimplification. Though trade and communication (don't know what investment has to do with globalization) showed profound impact on globalization, but these cannot be taken as sole catalysts.international trade is a recent phenomenon, before free market economies, mercantilism and bullionism held sway over globe.free markets and trade emerged after publication of wealth of nations by Adam smith in 1776,while globalization as phenomenon is as old as two thousand years. An excessive interaction (globalization) due to revolution in information technology, can be considered as bliss,or curse,or inevitable. Globalization is an intercontinental issue so it would be sheer negligence to confine it to the inter country relations. Sent from my T480 using Tapatalk |

Globalization is a very complex and highly integrated phenomenon like being as communist and leftist supporter, I place this process as an intrigue and phenomenoal paranoia that serves the interest of big corporates and deep pocketed elites nd you can consider me as deniver boots in this regard. Anyhow, I perceived it in terms of 1.Globalization of trade(likd cpec, TTIP) 2.Globalization of nato(ABM missile defense system in Europe and Concept of Euro atlanticism over the eurasian plate, no need to mentiin Natos maritime supremacy and hegemonic designs over ths globes crucial chokepoints likd persian gulf, suez canal and strait of malacca etc) 3.Geopolitical game theory in terms of owning of world resources as being the constituent of important part of globalization(from petropolitics to controlling the warm water important sea trade routes 4.Globalization of economy(deregulation of state economy under the auspicies of international institution like imf, wb and BIs(bank of international settlements)) 5.introduction of pluralistic society(in terms of race, color, ethnicity, and religion) Like how Islam spread out of its hearth-- the middle east. 6.globalization of terrorism(Isis led jihad and even modern solely entrenched system of governance --capitalism) 7.Technology(like internet, Facebook, twitter and what's app) 8.well, abhy itna he aya he damagh main |

I am really obliged for both the worthy opinions. Well i tried myself to sort it out. I came to know that the globalisation is such a vast phenomenon that it cannot be restricted to any single definition. Every author has used his own definition of globalisation in order to justify his thesis or essay. As far as the definition of globalisation is concerned, It varies from person to person. Thus, it leaves us with the notion that "Globalisation is the debate, and the debate is globalisation". But i have come across a definition which, in my opinion, is the most elaborate and extensive definition of globalisation.
"It is a process that encompasses the causes, course and consequences of transnational and transcultural integration of human and non-human activities" It covers all aspects of globalisation, be social, economic, political or technological. The non-human activities refer to the spread of pandemics such as Ebola, Zika virus, etc |
