I have essay phobia.

I have essay paper phobia. I usually try to guess topics for CSS 2018 essay paper. Then, I become anxious to study and collect material for that topic. How can I overcome this issue?
Thank you.

It happens most of the candidates because its a paper of Essay. Let me tell you my experience of essay paper in CE 2014. Was terrified of the essay paper and tried to get material from newspapers, JWT and from surfing internet. One of my siblings who is civil servant tagged me that i will not be able to pass the essay paper as i was too much obsessed and confused during preparation. Result was that i could not prepare much and appeared in the examination with an unknown topic of essay that was: Women Sportspersons are the new ambassadors to the soft image of Pakistan: I wrote on the topic by making a random outline on the back of paper and then i composed a simple essay in paragraphs. Though i was much confused but did well. Later on people made me confuse that you selected a random topic, u wont be able to get through it and you did not know about women sportspersons. How could you get through it? But i got 45 marks in it without having an idea about sports or anything related to this topic. In short, one must have a written practice of essay, data collection or rocket science material does not matter as i hd chosed a difficult topic but passed it even without having an idea about role of women as sportspersons or as ambassadors in this regard.

If you have opted IR, and you read the international news section of newspaper, you already have enough material to pass atleast one essay. Then there are generic essays on a hot topic from previous years. One essay is based on literature /philosophy.

And only luck would bring you to a situation where an essay tou have prepared would make it to the question paper, but that is a rarity.

What you have to safeguard yourself is to:

1. Familiarise yourself with the technique of essay writing. It can be easily sone by taking an online free course on essay writing. Tou can begin with coursera or edx

2. Practice. Practice as much as you can. When I was out of ideas ro write about, I wrote about the thesis of any op-ed article and jotted down all that came to my mind in a structured manner and then read it after a week or so. It enabled me to spot my mistakes and helped me avoid the same in future.

Hope it helps you to begin with essay writing, and setting aside the fears.

Reading dawn newspaper regularly, JWT and IR books are enough to keep updated with the current Affairs. But the ingredients which make you assure to pass in essay paper are, written practice, vocabulary building, improving expressions, improving grammer and Cramming suitable quotations from Renowned writers which you can use in the start or in the end of essay. You must know how to break the ice and how to conclude it. You are winner then...

All the best. And one thing, I have passed two essays without a single quote. Instead, I started both essays with narrating anecdotes. However, quotations are a legit and proven grabber for success. In the end, it comes down to one's eloquence and articulation.

Take the outlines people poat in essay threads on the exam day as a sample. Do not make a very lengthy one. One pager is fine and between intro and conclusion knit 3 or 4 points around the thesis

AOA

Please do not worry about you feelings. We do feel same because of uncertainty of essay question. Therefore it is quite natural. However, you can do these things to get well prepared.

1) Read the portion of golden suggestions from CSSforum
2) Essay always comes from selected fields e.g. education, gender, stability of Pakistan; please analyze the essay papers of past 20 years to jot down a list of fields to work upon.

3) Please understand the examiner's cycle of giving essay paper; it comes difficult in one year and easy in the other year. So, prepare it this way. If you are studying for 2018 then the essay paper, most probably, would be easy and descriptive type as it was in 2016.

4)I believe more than 60% failure is due to wrong interpretation of the topic.

Tips:
1)Understand the topic
2)Use simple and flawless English.
3)Handwriting should be neat and clean
4)Learn the structure of the essay
5)Practice as much as you can.

Last tip
Never underestimate yourself; nobody writes perfect and nobody is fully prepared for this paper.

All the Best!
