I will give you my opinion, but I must tell you that I haven't started preparing for the essay paper yet.

What are modern holy wars
In your outline, you are first talking about modern holy wars. Why do you use the term 'modern holy wars'? The question doesn't ask you to comment on that. The question contains the two terms 'modern wars' and 'holy wars'. When you say modern holy wars, you are already restricting yourself to the modern wars that are holy, thus missing the whole point of the question.

Even if it is the right term to use, your definition is incomplete. Modern holy wars are the ones 'that use latest automated weaponry' isn't a definition. If the Burma army didn't use automated weapons, it wouldn't be a modern war according to your definition. Yet the war is modern(relating to present), holy(because it involves religious persecution) and a war.

Islam and Holy Wars
Is there really no concept of a holy war in Islam? When you fight in the name of Allah, isn't it called a holy war?

First of all thanks. Your reply was very insightful. You are right, I shouldn't have used the term 'modren holy wars' by doing this I actually misinterpreted the topic. I will amend this.

Secondly, in my view the term holy war was invented during the cursades. In Islam, there is a concept of ' Jihad' which is a very broad concept. It includes struggle to eliminate evil. But, the Arabic translation for the word war is al-harb” and not jihad. In the Quran, Allah has ordained Jihad' but not war.

This interpretation is according to my limited knowledge. I may be wrong or right. But I think it would also be better to avoid such points in the essay paper which could generate debate or can be disputed.

As I mentioned, the essay was an extempore attempt without any research. I wrote it in just one hour.
