HUMAN TRAFFICKING & PAKISTAN: 8. THE UN ROLE: 9. SUZZANNE MUBARAK WOMEN’S INTERNATIONAL PEACE MOVEMENT (SMWIPM): 10. CONCLUSION: In the past few years, people smuggling across international borders has grown rapidly from small cross-border activity, affecting a handful of countries in a multi-million dollar global campaign. Although information on human smuggling is incomplete and often uncertain, current estimates suggest that about 8.00 000 people are brought in across borders each year. The spread of smuggling needs to be understood in the context of much greater globalization and migration. Expectations for a better life abroad, poverty, economic marginalization, political and social tensions and conflict are all reasons for transition. Media and transportation around the globe enable mobility. As push and pull factors encourage more and more people to migrate, they are then faced with the many legal entry barriers imposed by industrialized countries. |
