Please tell me if it is safe to start the introduction with a quote? And also if this is the right way to introduce a quote in writing?
Introduction: “Do not waste water even if you were at a running stream.” “Thousands have lived without love, not one without water.” These words of W.H Auden, a famous English poet, accentuate the importance of water for life. Water is precious as it is the most essential natural resource for survival of life on Earth. Although water is present on two-thirds of the Earth’s surface, only fresh water can be used for activities of living organisms. Surprisingly, fresh water is only 3% of the total water present. Moreover, the access to fresh water is not uniform all over the world. With rising demand for water and excessive exploitation of fresh water, the natural reserves of water are depleting. Water shortages in many regions, including Pakistan are testimony to this fact. In such a scenario, wastage of water can have disastrous repercussions for the present as well as future generations. It can intensify water scarcity eventually leading to food deficiency, poor sanitation, high costs of living and destruction of natural habitats. Therefore, conservation of water is not only important for one’s own self but also for have-nots and for coming generations. Water must not be wasted as it is already scarce in many regions with depleting reserves all over the world. The biggest contribution towards saving water for contemporaries and future generations can be made by simply not wasting it. Wasting water would simply mean wasting life. |

Gender equality is a myth!
Outline: I. Introduction Thesis statement: Gender equality is not a myth in the modern world rather it is achievable in an inclusive and participatory society with equitable standards and equal opportunities. II. Why gender equality is considered a myth? i. Due to biological differences between men and women, people believe that gender equality is not practical. ii. The presence of a strong patriarchal culture since ages disfavors the prospects of true gender equality. III. Why there has been gender inequality in the world? i. Physical strength had been considered the criteria for success in early hunter-gatherer societies which led to male-dominated socio-political structures. ii. Patriarchal societies offered unequal social, political and economic opportunities to women, resulting in the promotion of gender-based discrimination. IV. Why gender equality is not a myth? i. Scientifically, men and women both have equal potential to excel in any field in the modern world. ii. History is evident that given equal opportunities, women have always performed as good, if not better, as men in all walks of life. iii. In the modern world, excellence is being determined by character and intellectual prowess rather than physical strength. iv. Social structures are evolving all over the world with greater acceptance of equal roles of genders. v. Politics is a level playing field irrespective of gender as it has produced exceptional men and women of equal caliber. vi. The importance of an inclusive economy with equal participation of both genders has been accentuated for the progress of any country. V. How gender equality can be achieved? i. Break typical stereotypes regarding gender roles through gender sensitive education. ii. Target all forms of discrimination, violence and harmful practices against women through effective policy making. iii. Ensure provision of equal rights and equal opportunities to encourage participation of women in all spheres of life. iv. Incentivize female work force to include them in the economic progress of the country. v. Adopt sound policies and effective legislation for the promotion of gender equality and women empowerment. VI. Conclusion |

Quote:
Though its a good attempt, content need more work. Add more points in "why its a myth." And the argument that "political is level playing field..." rules out the face that there are more men in politics than women.. Women also faces barriers in various aspects just to enter... Add more concrete arguments in both. It will be better to write one liner/short sentences in the outline, makes it easier to convey. Keep practicing! hope it helps! |

Brains, Like Hearts, Go Where They are Appreciated
Introduction:
Artists, having completed their pieces of art, wish to present them to the public. They go through a fulfilling experience once their art is appreciated and acknowledged. Picasso drew because the masses would flock to his expos. The Beatles would sing because thousands would fill their concerts. Ghalib would write because the Palace would look forward to his recitals every Friday. The same is true for doctors, scientists, engineers, architects and other professionals who carry in them any art. While people may not flock to watch a doctor treating his patient, the appreciation is showed in other ways that include, but are not limited to, good monetary compensation, high regard in the society, or acknowledgement by the state, society and media. It is thus that talented professionals aspire to fly to European or North-American countries where their talent is more likely to be appreciated- financially and socially. Dr. Zia Ur Rahman, the first Civil Engineer to design a 30-story high-rise, had to prove his mettle in the U.S. after Bangladesh failed to recognize his creative potential. Dr. Abdul Salam, having failed to attract appreciation from the Government of Pakistan, left for Zurich only to receive a Nobel Prize in Physics. Had the same appreciation and support been given to the aforementioned individuals in Pakistan, the country would have retained them and benefitted from their creative potential. It would be unfair to lay the responsibility solely over the state since the society, too, has a great role to play in supporting, appreciating and acknowledging such brains that have the potential to make a difference. Unless the society and the state realises this fact, brains will keep draining into other countries that appreciates their wit. |

I think it's okay to quote before writing an essay, however the quote must aim directly at the topic. I think, and you are free to disagree, that the quote is not relevant to the topic. While the topic calls for "Not Wasting water", the quote seems to draw a comparison between love and water, declaring that the latter is vital while the former isn't Regarding the rest of the paragraph, I think its fairly good and to the point!! |

Quote:
Good outline, arguments specifically in the global dynamics are convincing. But the ones given in Pakistan's foreign policy sound more like issues. This doesn't mean they are wrong but thing is they need to be rephrased. It should highlight how Pakistan has aligned its foreign policy under such dynamics. "Determinants" are not necessary. Recommendations for what? make it clear. Don't just leave headings on the way. Hope it helps! |
