Help needed for essay preparation
there are a lot of different threads on essay-writing on this forum. Can any experienced member recommend a single essay pattern that alone can provide sufficient guidance on how to write an essay for CSS essay paper? Please recommend an essay pattern that is meant PARTICULARLY for CSS, and that has been followed by the successful candidates.
Or recommend some other link or book that alone is sufficient for preparation of essay. |

- First of all go to the last page of the Answer sheet and start writing down the points you think in your mind regarding the topic, try to inter link things..like if the essay is on the "Islam's Peace Message" try to inter link in with the terrorism going on (which is not taught by Islam), injustices being done to Muslims,Examples from the Holy life of our beloved prophet Muhhamad (SAW) "Fattah Makkah and peace", "Sullah Hadaibya" etc... I mean to say just try to write in points each n every thing you think is linked to the topic (this is rough Working on back of answer sheet) -Now come at start and leave a space for outline of the essay at the start of the answer sheet (this is highly recommended)-space shhould be 2 sides of a page, which can carry almost 30 points -Now think deeply before writing the first two pages of your essay-Introduction That is(Introduction is the most important part of your essay) -After intro, watch you rough work (points) one by one and start making paragraphs of each point.Just like introduction, the conclusion of your essay is also the Imporatnt part of your essay-you can give heading "conclusion" or not..(I did) -when you have written your essay, now watch each paragraph, what it is about and make its point on the Outline (space left at the start of answer sheet), by doing this all paragraphs of your essay must represent a point in the NEAT outline. -After this in last 15 mints just revise your essay for grammatical and spelling mistakes. -For time management give 30 mints for thinking about essay topic+rough outline,2 hour & 15 mints for writing main body of essay+neat outline, last 15 mints for revision..I am sure my practising this exercise before exam and during exam you can score 60+ in essay (InshAllah) -I would recommend you to get "Golden Notes" of Mr. S.P.Hammad of Officers academy Lahore..these notes will help you a lot to compose a good Essay. Need further help, please do'nt hesitate to ask again

These notes are available @ Officers Academy Only in Lahore.
as an alternative of Golden Notes you can also consult 2 or 3 editions of "Contemporary Affairs" By Imtiaz Shahid... Talking about the Current Affairs paper...Use same book by Imtiaz Shahid (mentioned above) for preparation...a far as paper attemption is concerned...first of all read the question atleast thrice before attempting so that you understand completely, what the examiners wants to ask? Please do'nt be too quick to start writing your answer. - In current affairs paper always start from the current status of the problem being asked (1-2 page),then 1-1.5 page historical background then 1-2 page future projections and in the end 1-1.5 page conclusion (your comments and suggestion regarding the topic. -Future projections and your personal comments regarding the topic are the important part of your answer, the candidate who attempts this portion of the Q good, gets good marks. -Current affairs paper basically judges the ability of the candidate to express his/her opinion on any topic or issue..simply reproduction of thoughts printed in books would'nt fetch good marks...Its sort of creative writing on current and global issues...for which one must be a regular reader of Dawn and the Economist (Quarterly "www.economist.com") and do listen to News on Dawn News and BBC News regards

Thanx a lot for the essay pattern!
I also need help regarding the Question no.3 of the English Precis and Composition paper.ie. the comprehensive note of 250-300 words. Can you give a similar pattern for writing this note? Secondly, what kind of substance and material should be written in it? the topics are mostly philosophical. Is it supposed to be a philosophical note? Or one including facts and figures as examples? |

Dear Member
For attempting Comprehension question of Eng paper remember one thing that you will have to practice a lot..atleast one comprehension per day must be followed for atleast one month...which means you must have practised atleast 30 comprehensions b4 u actualy attempt in the paper, that will enable you to develop speed to solve comprehension more efficiently. Rule-A..Read the pasage atleast thrice, very closely and analytically Rule-B..Underline the important portions of the passage what you think to be very important with the context of the passage. Rule-C..Read the questions of the passage at the end,try to find their answers in the passage and if remained un-underlined earlier, please enderline them NOW Rule-D..Please DO NOT give your own suggestions or examples in the answers Rule-E..DO NOT reproduce the words of the passage in your answers, make your own wording but meaning must not change..use simple, correct and lucid language to develop your answers. Rule-F..DO NOT forget to revise your answers at the end of the paper In english paper...Precise,comprehension and paradox are the MOST important portion..he who performs well, passes the exam...all three questions needs practise ONLY than anything else

@ Tahirauf: Help needed for NOTE
Thanx for the comprehension rules. But i was seeking help regarding the NOTE (250-300 words).. Anyway, the comprehension guideline was still useful, because I needed that too.
But This is the question I am talking about: Q.3. Write a comprehensive note (250—300 words) on any one of the following: (20) a. To rob Peter to pay Paul b. The child is father of the man. c. Art lies in concealing art d. Life without a philosophy is like a ship without rudder e. A contented mind is a blessing kind. Should it consist of a single paragraph or more? Can you give a similar pattern for writing this note? Secondly, what kind of substance and material should be written in it? the topics are mostly philosophical. Is it supposed to be a philosophical note? Or one including facts and figures as examples? Last edited by Shooting Star; Wednesday, March 07, 2012 at 02:44 AM. Reason: Do not use red colour. |

in the note questions, what you do is write, kind of, a short essay. it examines how much you understand that particular topic, and how would you explain that to a person.
consider one of the examples that i did once in my exam. it related to something like "Charms strike the sight but merit wins the soul"(2006 paper).now what i understand by that is that beauty is skin deep. and other thing is that when a person is qualified he will be remembered for ever. so that is the explanation. then you can start with a couple of teh examples. remember the great political scientist Chankia? he was ugly but he is still remembered. Hakim Luqman was not great looking either. neither was socrates. but these people are remembered because they had something else in their personalities; they were qualified, and obtained the heghts in their respective fields. give a small conclusion, and before you know it you have a note that you can present and get good marks.

First of all I am sorry for not understanding your question completely..well the question you intend to ask is about Paradox not Comprehension For paradox..Mr. Mehmood has already given some good points..i 'll try to put some light further on this topic...well as far as paradox is concerned, choice of the paradox to attempt is the most cruicial point. please DO NOT attempt the topic about which you are not 100% sure..after you are certain about a topic then follow the same pattern as for essay...think deeply before you start writing,YES you can present your material in more than one paragraphs (it is advisable too), you can use examples and other supportive incidents to back up your statements. Make sure that the length of your paradox explanation does'nt exceed 300 words..it must be between 250-300 (or any other number mentioned in Q paper) as mentioned in my previous post that Precise, Comprehension and Paradox (what you call NOTE) are THE important portion of the English paper, the candidate who scores good in these three Qs pass the paper otherwise..... Moreover Think as much as you can before attempting the Q...If possible (time allows) do some rough work before attempting the neat version....... Regards,
