Errors of Enthusiasm are better than indifference

Before Anatole France, renowned French author and noble laureate, who declared his passion for being an erring enthusiast rather than an idle sage in these words, "I prefer the errors of enthusiasm to the indifference of wisdom”; Ralph Waldo Emerson, the passionate enthusiast of 19th century America, had already elucidated the importance of enthusiasm in human life succinctly when he said, “Nothing great was ever achieved without enthusiasm.” Ralph asserted in his writings the belief that each person has the power to transcend the material world and to see and grasp the infinite with the help of innate enthusiasm.

Enthusiasm, or the passion to do something in one’s life, is the foundation of all great inventions and writings. Before exploring the indispensability of enthusiasm in human life we should search for the exact meanings of the word ‘enthusiasm’. It has been explained diversely as ‘strong excitement of feeling on behalf of a cause or a subject; something that inspires or is pursued or regarded with ardent zeal or fervor; passionate interest or eagerness to do something; a thing that arouses a consuming interest; intense enjoyment, interest or approval.” Eminent American playwright Tennessee Williams thinks enthusiasm as ‘the most important thing in life’; Henry Caster considers it ‘the greatest asset in the world that beats money, power and influence’; Charles Schwab believes that ‘a man can succeed at almost anything for which he has unlimited enthusiasm’; Disraeli opines enthusiasm as ‘that secret and harmonious spirit which hovers over the production of genius’ while in Conrad Hilton’s words it is ‘a vital element toward the individual success of every man or woman.’

Enthusiasm is the will to live, the will to create a new world of one’s own dreams and aspirations, the will to innovate a unique beauty of truth. It is the source by which all fountains of invention and revolution sprout. The driving force that runs whole the world on the way to progress and betterment, enthusiasm is the motivation that saves our society from stagnancy. An enthusiast never looses his vigor for being positive and always hopes for the better no matter how much difficult it may have become to be optimistic. Man’s source of energy is not just sun; his heart is also a hidden treasure house of infinite energy and enthusiasm is the key that unlocks this secret force. Man’s journey from a semi brute caveman to a well-civilized explorer of space and sky is, in fact, a story of his ability to utilize this hidden energy with the help of his ceaseless enthusiasm.
A practical man motivated by the impetus of enthusiasm is very likely to err in many matters but it is better to make a mistake while doing something rather than sitting idle faultlessly. Certainly the condition of the most passionate enthusiast is to be preferred over the individual who, because of the fear of making a mistake, won’t in the end affirm or deny anything. Sanity is a helpful thing for living a smooth life but wisdom leading to indifference and inaction can not be approved as something positive. Too much thinking and no action make life dull and tedious thus taking away its spirit of passion and excitement. In Thucydides’ words enthusiasm is the hallmark of a living man as he says, “The ability to understand a question from all sides meant one was totally unfit for action. Fanatical enthusiasm was the mark of the real man” Enthusiasm is the sign of life and it is glaringly evident that life can not be perfect at any time. It is full of errors and blunders and in these weaknesses lays its real taste and strength. Life with out enthusiasm for something is equivalent to death. As a dead man in his grave has neither work nor planning nor knowledge nor wisdom so an impervious person impersonating himself as a sage is, in fact, worse than a corpse.

Errors of enthusiasm can harm us, can make our life miserable, can damage our career and fate but after committing all these follies out of excitement and enthusiasm we stay under the skin of humanity. But, on the other hand, indifference often leads us to inhumanity. It is good to be sane but for the evolution of humanity every sane person must know how to be insane at proper occasions for all great inventions and innovations owe their existence to a certain amount of fanaticism in human blood. A passionate zeal is the sign of a vibrant and lively soul. With out a burning enthusiasm for a certain goal no one can achieve his aims in life. Enthusiasm is not only crucial to prepare us for a struggle in our life but it also raises our morale when we are dejected and depressed over our failures. As is told to us the story of famous Scottish King Robert Bruce who, in spite of successive failures at battlefield, doesn’t loose heart and learns the message of courage and enthusiasm from a spider in a cave, where he has got reclusion after his last defeat, and at last gathers his declining enthusiasm and wins liberty for his country. If a person, who has lost all hopes of revival of his fortune, succeeds in enlightening his heart with the insightful beams of enthusiasm; undoubtedly success won’t be far away from him for enthusiasm has the magical power of winning hearts and conquering lands. It moves stones and charm brutes. It is the genius of truth and sincerity and truth accomplishes no victories without it.
Our experience of the past history amply proves that without an ardent zeal for betterment and improvement in life it wouldn’t have been possible for humanity to reach where it is standing now. Hope for better, expectation of a bright future and trust in one’s energy and ability had always remained guiding stars of human journey through ages. Enthusiasm is the energy that reveals man’s hidden abilities at the time of a crisis and never lets man loose his courage in face of troubles and difficulties. Humanity, at different junctures, has very starkly felt this reality. There are plenty of instances in history where an ambitious general, a grand monarch, an astute politician, or a diehard chief of some tribe or group; were reduced to a miserable and worthless situation by the tide of time but with the help of their innate qualities of head and heart and with their energy sprouting out of enthusiasm they were able to recapture their position and prestige. Hence we can conclude that enthusiasm is the power house of energy which makes our life a worth living thing and it can not be sacrificed for so called sobriety and intellectualism.

You don't have to feel that way :vic . I must say you have a good command of English. Atleast, I didn't find any serious damage in your writing. No human being is perfect. Improving process goes on through out our lives. Just keep reading grammar books, newspapers & write more & more. Only if you play with english you'll improve. That's what I believe. Style your sentences using different words, quotations & idioms, imitate writers & try to invent something new in every writing. Be innovative and have fun with writing. And the most important factor that leads to improvement is self-confidence. Rest seniors shall guide you. All the best!

I think other way round. Preshan Gul is good at what he is fearing of. It's his confidence which speaks of fear. Maturity is depicted by person's avoiding over confidence strategy.

Dear Princess Royal & Raz

Thx for taking time to comment on my effort. But I would be very thankful to you if you kindly pinpoint my weaknesses in language and content for me crticism, a positive criticism, works more marvelously than a general appreciation. So being a novice in this field it would be more valuable for me if you spare a little more time and tell me which area of englsih language I should concentrate more.

Here are few minor errors which I came across while reading your essay again:
Too much thinking and no action make life dull and tedious thus taking away its spirit of passion and excitement.
makes life dull
Certainly the condition of the most passionate enthusiast is to be preferred over the individual who, because of the fear of making a mistake, won’t in the end affirm or deny anything.
Insert comma after certainly. Words like however, consequently, certainly, therefore and blah blah precede with a comma.
In Thucydides’ words enthusiasm is the hallmark of a living man as he says, “The ability to understand a question from all sides meant one was totally unfit for action. Fanatical enthusiasm was the mark of the real man”
End the sentence with a full stop after inverted comma.
Enthusiasm is the energy that reveals man’s hidden abilities at the time of a crisis and never lets man loose his courage in face of troubles and difficulties.
According to me, it should be at the time of crisis.

Had this been written by a real novice I would have been able to pinpoint more errors. Honestly speaking, I didn't find any major damage in your language. You have a strong grip over English, Mash-Allah. There might be few more grammatical errors but, since I am not an expert, so can't figure them out. Like I said in my previous post, keep reading grammar books and solve exercises. You'll come across your weaknesses. That's all what I can say!

Thx again Princess Royal!!!!

Thx brother for taking pain of going through my half-cooked effort again. Punctuation is the most weak part of my language and I am trying to overcome it. Your pinpointing of errors would certainly help me in this direction. I am thankful to you and need your continuous criticism of my writings for I've noticed that your observation is stronger enough to capture even such minor mistakes that usually go unnoticed. Pleaase help me in improving my writing ability. I would be highly obliged if u r kind enough to have a critical look at my two other posts namely "Money Makes the Mare to go'' and "Religious contentions are Satan's heaven".

First of all, I am not brother.

Secondly, you are not approaching the right person. When it comes to CSS, you need an expert who can guide you in the best manner. That's what I can't do as I myself is a novice in this field. It's been a long time since I was last in touch with grammar and english, all in all. My reason for reading your essay was to see if your english is really the way you defined it. As I didn't find it miserable, so thought of ensuring it to you and ended up correcting your errors :). Still, I will go through your essays either on wednesday or thursday and help you with the little knowledge that's still stored in my brain. Don't rely on my judgements alone. I might be wrong. You need a proper guidance from experts in this field.

I request seniors and experts on board to assist Preshan Gul with your expertise. I shall be thankful to you for doing so. :)

Regards,
P.R.

Thanks

First, sorry that I assumed you brother:oooo you may be sister. Anyhow a considerate sister is more dear to me than an indifferent brother:roll
Second, I do not believe in 'experts' for my past experience of experts is, unfortunately not so good. At times experts prove so hallow that my weakness in English seems nothing as compared to their shallow approach towards language. Also, I am a little bit shy about sharing my writings with anyone thats why I am taking the help of internet. I do believe that an open criticism from many people is more beneficial in correcting one's language than the opinion of a single expert. Anyhow thx again for sparing time for my poor piece of writing.
I would wait for your valuable criticism on my other posts.
