• Education

Talibanisation is a growing phenomenon of International concern changing the course of International diplomacy thus nation’s world over have been overwhelmed by altering International scenario owing to the prevalence of extremist Ideologies propagated by extreme measures.

Talibanisation is rapid pace gaining phenomena prevailing throughout south east - west Asia countries which are deem to be secular and communists has so far not been able to fend for its reach in their societies;
Recent ethnic clash in Xinjiang province of china, Mumbai train bombing in India are notorious examples of Talibanisation gradually nocking their national senses.

Nevertheless its Intensity can be felt when we see its affects prevailing over International diplomacy destabilizing governments, affecting economies, altering political Ideologies, putting pressure on states and last but not the least posing serious threats to International Peace.

Taliban’s (calling themselves religious students) a group of people with their own religio-social Ideology following its own rules of set principles resorting to extreme interpretable rational of religion provided with extreme measures for the attainment of given goals under the pretext of religion and people who follows their Ideology thus helps promote talibanisation, Talibanisation started with soviet invasion of Afghanistan in 1979 Mujhadins (known as holy warriors) who started resisting soviets revered as heroes attracted a lot of young men from the neighboring and Islamic countries with the help of Pakistani government and U.S contingency on the behest of holy war moreover young men were brought from Islamic countries by C.I.A to fight a holy war religious seminaries were turned into training grounds propagating their own version of hard line Islam turning young moderate men into extremists on the name of holy war not to say it was actually a version of cold war fought on afghan soil, money kept pumping in from C.I.A and channelized by ISI led to success in war and utter withdrawal of Russians from Afghanistan furthermore fulfilled the American motives in disintegrating U.S.S.R.

Americans left the region rolling back aid packages imposing ban on Pakistan the country which claimed itself as front line state in holy war going to the extent of compromising its sovereignty for American interests.
With war over some of the young men returned to their native countries whilst majority stayed in Afghanistan. Having nothing to do, left over with devastated country, overwhelmed by poverty and political anarchy instability on rise provided them an opportunity to take over arms once again moreover resulting in enforcing their own version of Islam and administration of state deriving its source from hard line version of Wahabbi Islam. Talibans didn’t believe in taking taxes from people whole economy came to a stand still. Devastated country with no resources a landlocked country no trade and trained man power started receiving aid from Saudia Arabia and Pakistani establishment. Common citizens had no respectable earning no infrastructure and impressed along oppressed by talibans people started inducting their children in seminaries (Madrassah), in seminaries minors were taught hard line self propounded version of Islam diluting their mind with extreme pedagogy rather than reasoning aspect of Islam turning them into hardcore militants

Talibans are pashtoon but not every pashtoon is a Talib, sharing common ethnicity on both sides of 1400 km border with Afghanistan affects of talibanisation was also felt on this side of border. Same lack of infrastructure and livelihood, gun culture in tribal areas was somewhat similar to what people were experiencing on other side of afghan border assimilating both was no rule of law in tribal areas hence helping talibanisation on Pakistani side of border flourish predicting predicament for the entire region in future
On other hand a chain of event was taking place in middle east Palestinians were deprived of their land by Israeli’s supported by American establishment sent a wave of anger in the Muslim world. Saudi rulers allowed American base on holy land further infuriated hardcore hard liners thus resulting in formation of Al-Qaeda ruled by same Osama bin laden who was a front line Jihadi in American led cum holy war in Afghanistan

Al Qaeda was against American prerogative of supporting Israel in its occupation of holy land of Jerusalem and American base on holy land of Saudia Arabia. thus threatening American interest throughout the world.
Al Qaeda gave the impression of Islamic war (Jihad) against American established hegemony in world which appealed alot to hard liners. On the other hand many states of the world which were internationally associated with U.S annoyed hard liners living in those countries calling for resistance in their own countries which is supportive of American interest hence following talibans Ideology of talibanisation making it more appealing and acceptable throughout the world.

In the series of event 9/11 bombing world trade center took place which was claimed to be perpetrated by Al Qaeda (still to be verified). Outraging American hegemony resulted in illegitimate aggression on Afghanistan under the pretext of Osama bin laden presence in Afghanistan which directly added to spread of Talibanisation in region Pakistani talibans due to religious and social attachment with talibans on other side of the border also went to fight against American forces present in region escalating talibanisation wave in region witnessing deluge of support to talibans from the other side of Pakistani border led to American annoyance and came out as pressure on Pakistani government to stop the infiltration of Pakistani talibans infiltrating into Afghanistan. Pakistan faced huge opposition from tribals who turned onto Pakistan because of its support for U.S interpreting in terrorism in Pakistani cities killing hundreds of people according to estimated report 2106 people have so far been executed by the wave of terrorism in the country owing to talibanisation.

Talibanisation owes it prevalence in a civilized society to gross injustice, Poverty, failure of public welfare, incompetence of public administration, lack of education and underdevelopment. In a country like Pakistan where democracy is sham people has no forum of true representation where they could be heard and grievances redressed, executive is incompetent failed in regulating, distributing and allocating, Judiciary is a Tortoise quenching the needs of elite. moreover a country which spends 1 % of its GDP on education divided into elite and formal subject, where literacy rate scales at 36 % you have schools but no teachers unpaged over effective education policy Nonetheless bearing seminaries which educates 20 million students some of which precepts hard line version of Islam is bound to be a victim of talibanisation.

A country hit by talibanisation confronts alot of problems on economic fronts dictating in reduction of foreign direct investment affecting market economy and small scale enterprises directly affecting the life of a common citizen thus invoking unrest in market leading to variations in national economy furthermore leading to poverty escalation provided tarnished international Image denial of Visa and strict Immigration procedure. Poverty plays a prominent role in talibanisation parents who could not provide for school Fee bread and books in rural areas of Pakistan send their children to religious seminars which derive its teaching from hard line talibanisation Ideology of Jihad and hatred. Alumni of seminaries after passing out has nothing to do he is not accepted in society as a professional moreover has no means of earning rather than being a maulvi at a mosque or drive himself to join a purpose of striving against oppressive forces internally and externally which he was taught in seminary. A citizen needs to be looked after by a state and when states fail to provide him with basic livelihood, opportunities and protection he resorts to other short extremist paths thus retaliating against society causing collateral damage on terms of bringing about an Islamic revolution.
Talibanisation in Pakistan and Afghanistan owes its prevalence to aforementioned reasons

Talibanisation is a product of high class Wahabbi faction of Islam a faction which adheres to extreme views. Bombing shrines, imposing strict restrictions on women, observing strictness in law, in order to counter the adverse affects of these stringent intolerant followings mystic, soft, progressive and enlightened version of Islam has to be preached in seminaries and mosques. Seminaries have to be streamlined combining religious and technical education so that a alumni when passes out gets a respectable mean to earning moreover supports his family comes in line with society. People suffering due to atrocities, Inflation, feudalism and Injustice have to be provided Justice. Meanwhile merit has to be maintained and a welfare oriented approach has to be put in practice in order to put an end to this growling retrogressive phenomena.

Talibanisation as a phenomenon is still growing in large posing threat to our future generations. Altering the course of progressive future and ruining the fabric of peaceful societies, talibanisation as a problem is of Political nature. Hearts and minds of people are to be won to put an end to this retrogressive practice of force. We have to put our own house in order empowering the people farther applying welfare oriented approach is the only way forward.

Smile correction in the essay

although, i am not your senior, let me add some comments on your essay.

first look out for your sentences. you are using too long sentences which makes it difficult for the reader to comprehend your writing. Like " Talibanisation is a growing phenomenon of International concern changing the course of International diplomacy thus nation’s world over have been overwhelmed by altering International scenario owing to the prevalence of extremist Ideologies propagated by extreme measures"
this sentence must be ended at "diplomacy"

let see in the following paragraph it is not so clear where the sentence ends, where it starts and it is not separting the ideas. "Taliban’s (calling themselves religious students) a group of people with their own religio-social Ideology following its own rules of set principles resorting to extreme interpretable rational of religion provided with extreme measures for the attainment of given goals under the pretext of religion and people who follows their Ideology thus helps promote talibanisation, Talibanisation started with soviet invasion of Afghanistan in 1979 Mujhadins (known as holy warriors) who started resisting soviets revered as heroes attracted a lot of young men from the neighboring and Islamic countries with the help of Pakistani government and U.S contingency on the behest of holy war moreover young men were brought from Islamic countries by C.I.A to fight a holy war religious seminaries were turned into training grounds propagating their own version of hard line Islam turning young moderate men into extremists on the name of holy war not to say it was actually a version of cold war fought on afghan soil, money kept pumping in from C.I.A and channelized by ISI led to success in war and utter withdrawal of Russians from Afghanistan furthermore fulfilled the American motives in disintegrating U.S.S.R. "

no doubt, you have made a good effort but you need to concentrate on the sentence structure, use of right word at the right place. you r better in vocabulary but you need to practice composition. i wd suggest you to read editorial of dawn news regularly and rewrite it. practice the sentence structure composition and streamlining of the ideas, and again and again read the same editorial. have two or three dictionaries on your computer and do all this on your computer. i would give u a sample in the next post.

"Media and the reconstruction of reality

By Hussain H. Zaidi

"Of late (recently), the media in Pakistan, particularly the electronic one, has come in for sharp criticism for allegedly twisting facts, spreading sensationalism and thus aggravating an already volatile situation. Media persons rebut this charge maintaining that they present things as they are and report events as they happen without malice or bias.

By virtue of their power to shape public perceptions, the media has developed into a vital political force as well as an instrument of social control. Perception is how we think and feel about the world. It is about how we interpret and reconstruct the social reality. Perception may be close to the reality or divorced from it but is important because human behaviour is determined not by the reality per se but how it is perceived. The media not only depicts the reality but also reconstructs it by presenting and interpreting facts in a particular way. For instance, while reporting the recent acts of terrorism in Mumbai, the Indian media by and large assumed that Pakistan was involved in that and thus reconstructed the happenings accordingly and presented Pakistanis as the bad guys.

The media can turn a hero into a villain and vice versa. Whether the media describes insurgents as terrorists or freedom fighters can make all the difference in the way the viewer or the reader perceives them. For example, the way Al-Jazira television channel presents Osama Bin Laden and his Al Qaeda is different from how the western media project them. The way the Indian press presents Kashmiri militants is different from how Pakistani press projects them. The way the government-controlled media project the state of the economy, society and politics is different from how independent media present the same.

Though all media reconstruct the reality, they do so differently depending on how independent they are. The more independent a newspaper or TV channel, the more objective is the reality it reconstructs. For the media to be independent, they should be free not only of government control but also of a particular ideology. The media which are controlled by the state or wedded to a particular philosophy at best present only half-truths. Hence, the reality they reconstruct is deficient in objectivity.

State controlled media, like Pakistan Television (PTV), leave no stone unturned (to do everything one can do) in extolling (to praise) the policies and performance of the government. They never let their readers or viewers look at the debit side of the government’s balance sheet. The media which espouse (to involve in supporting some activity) the cause of capitalism present free market economy as the panacea (a problem solver) for all economic ills. The press in thrall of socialist ideas propagates the class system as the root cause of all problems that afflict society.

In the former Soviet Union and other communist countries, for instance, the reality reconstructed by the media was almost always fashioned on Marxism. Today the majority of the western print media extol capitalist values as religiously as fascism was extolled in Hitler’s Germany.

Control of the media and background, basic assumptions and education of journalists are also important. How much independent is editorial policy of the control of the owners? Do the owners interfere too much in the editorial policy or leave it largely to professional journalists? On their part, are media persons professionally competent? Are they well-versed in the issues that they speak or write about? Do they have affiliations with a political party or an ethnic organisation, which makes them have vested interest or see things through coloured glasses rather than objectively?

Language is the vehicle for communication and understanding. But language can also be used to obstruct communication, conceal rather than facilitate flow of information, and create misunderstanding, confusion and ambiguity. By the same token, the media, a powerful instrument of dissemination of information and opinion formation, can be used to suppress information, disseminate misleading information and form prejudiced opinion. Media discourses may have an effect similar to that of an ideology — a readymade way of thinking can rule out alternative ways of thinking. The media discourse that some foreign hand is involved in an act of terrorism may rule out that the problem may be indigenously caused. The media discourse offering a choice between a market economy and a centrally planned economy may rule out having a mixed economy combining positive features of both.

Generally speaking, it is the power to reconstruct reality that accounts for the government’s love-hate relationship towards the media. The government loves the media, because the latter can help reconstruct the reality the way the former wants. Conversely, the government hates the media, because the latter can reconstruct the reality objectively, which may put the ruling party in a difficult situation. Thus every government loves compliant media and hates independent media. For the government’s media managers, the fundamental problem is how to use a carrot and stick ( rewarding for some actions and punishing for the others) policy to turn an independent media into a compliant one.

The government takes measures to woo (to persuade to support), control, harass and intimidate the media. Such measures may consist in allocating government advertisements, press advice, censorship, threats to journalists, physical attacks on media establishments and persons, or complete suppression of a particular channel or newspaper depending on the character of the government, the prevalent political system, the power of the media, and the level of social and economic development.

In a democratic and advanced polity, the measures to control the media are normally subtle and moderate, while in a despotic and backward state, such measures are usually rough and extreme. On balance, a democratic government is far more tolerant of an independent media than a despotic one.

In Pakistan, at best a controlled democracy, governments by and large have been averse to freedom of expression. To them, a free media is anathema for it defeats their attempts to reconstruct the reality as they desire and would hence adopt all the available tactics to control them. These tactics notwithstanding, the media have gained in independence. A landmark development is the establishment of private TV channels, which broke the government’s monopoly over electronic media. This means that now people can view the counterpoint to which they did not have access previously, that they can see the other side of the picture which had hitherto been invisible to them.

During last one and half year, Pakistan has been passing through political and economic uncertainty. An uncertain politico-economic environment is the breeding ground for speculations, rumours and sensationalism. In a fast changing scenario, people are anxious to know more either to alleviate their anxieties or just out of curiosity. The media, particularly the electronic media with their round-the-clock and live broadcasts, seek to satisfy this need. Electronic media have a wider reach than the press as literacy is not required and influence is immediate covering a greater viewership. They can dramatise and popularise ideas in a way the press cannot. A society where illiteracy is rampant and which is markedly deficient in rationalism, electronic media, for better or worse, tend to exercise immense influence over the viewers.

Public need and desire for information has to be satisfied in a way that does not add to the volatility of the situation. The purpose should be to enhance public understanding rather than confuse them, educate the people rather than indulge in mere propaganda. This requires media which are not only independent but also mature. A free media may not be mature. However, only a free media can be mature. State control cannot make the media mature. It can only shackle them. A media in chain can be anything but mature. Democracy is a necessary condition for a free and hence mature media.

However, democracy is not a sufficient condition for a mature media. The maturity of the media is also linked to the society in which they operate. In a society, where the louder one speaks the greater attention and credibility one draws, the media can disregard facts in the race to break the news or swell the size of their viewers despite the fact that this can be a race to the bottom. This is especially true of electronic media with their live programmes, where anchorpersons and guests can dabble into debates on issues they have little appreciation of.

With more democracy, the media will become freer; with greater and better education they will gain in maturity. Thus the reconstruction of the reality by the media in Pakistan is going to be a function of democracy and education."

Following are the practice paragraphs .... i have reproduced the important points to learn the composition and presentation.

Biased role of electronic media

Electronic media has come in for sharp criticism for twisting facts, spreading sensationalism and aggravating the issues. By virtue of its power to shape public perceptions, it has become a vital political force and an instrument of social control. It makes the perception of public on different issues.

Generally, human behavior is determined by the perceptions rather than the reality. Media can interpret and reconstruct the reality in its own mode. Like Indian media assumed Pakistan’s involvement in Mumbai attacks and then presented the situation accordingly.

Media can turn a hero into a villain. Al-Jazira tv channel presented osama bin laden and al-qaeda different from how the western media projected them. Similar case is observed on the issue of Kashmir. The govt controlled media project its policies in a quite different way from how independent media present the same.

Only independent media channels follow objectivity. For the media to be independent, they must be free from the govt control and from a particular ideology. State controlled PTV has left no stone unturned in extolling the policies and performance of the govt. in former soviet union reality reconstructed by the media was fashioned on Marxism. The western media extol capitalist values as fascism was extolled in Hitler’s Germany.

There must not be any interference of owners in editorial policy. It must be left to professional journalists. On their part, media persons must be professionally competent. They must be well-versed in the issues and they must not have any affiliations with a political party or an ethnic organization which makes them see things through colored glass than objectivity.

Media must not use language for distorting the facts, misleading the people or conceal any information. For instance, media discourse that foreign hand is involved in the terrorism rules out that the problem may be indigenously caused.

The govt generally loves the compliant media and hates the independent media. By allocating govt advertisements, press advice, censorship, threats to journalists or otherwise govt can woo, control or harass the media. In democratic and advanced polity, measures to control media are normally subtle and moderate.

Pakistan is passing through a situation of uncertainty. An uncertain policio-economic environment is breeding ground for speculations, rumors and sensationalism. Electronic media has wider reach –illiteracy, dramatization and popularization.

There is a need of enhanced public understanding than confusing them. Democracy is a necessary condition for free and mature media which is needed. Maturity of media is also linked to the society.

"With more democracy, the media will become freer; with greater and better education they will gain in maturity"
