Default imp of facts and figures in essay

Aoa dear members,
Wat is the importance of mentioning facts and figures in the essay paper.
Like in economy related essay its all about facts but might not be in some other ones.Should one justify each point with facts and figures. Is it good to have them on your finger tips, or is it all about grammer , art of quoting, coherence etc etc . i guess facts and figures make the examiner read your essay, it ( i guess) would also make him impress as they say, knowledge is power, knowledge is flana flana. so i deem facts imp part , whats your take on it

Don’t quote wrong figures. Whenever you quote any figure which is not an exact figure try to present it in a diplomatic way like: approximately, around, near about, nearly, more or less, in the range of, in the bucket of, roughly, etc.
Facts and figures are your positive points but make sure that your are not an statistical officer neither you are a scientist. Your essay should not look like an statistical research paper or a thesis. Including more figures in essay may compel you to compromise on the quality and charm of the essay. Keep your essay attractive, easy to understand, reader friendly and interesting. So long as your essay maintains its charm and attraction for the reader you can afford facts and figures.
It is better to be handy with major figures and avoid minute details.

in other words facts are secondry or art of quoting is seconadry? and what is the prime reason of such a high fail % in essay? lack of good grammar, or lack of interesting stuff in the essay body? and is it Ok to streach yor outline a bit too much ( but justified) like, say in Present Economic scenio , Tribulations (is type ka kuch)

1) Intro

2) Causes
a)Declining rate of Foreign Investment
b)Energy Woes
c)High Inflation
d)High Interest rate
e)armed conflicts
.
.
.
.
p)ever swallowing debt burden

2)Effect
a)income disparities
b) Govt resorting to slasing PSDP funds
c) escalating unemployment
.
.

.

.m)

3)Remedies/Solutions

a) adressing power woes
i)short term
A)Energy conservation: taking it as national responsibility
ii)medium term measures
.
.
b)Enhancing trade
i) trade with India on MFN basis
ii) trade with so and so

Raz brother , me not experienced as you are but .... i dont really see any harm in being the statistical scientist as far as it is coupled with reasonable vocab, not hi-fi / but OK ( guzaray like) grammer, and if facts and figures are not at the cost of quality,... then, what i think is that you not only could pass it but manage to fetch ..above ,say, 55 or some thing around the said figure..

if it is,say they ask about present scenerio, then making the essay saturated with figures is imperative, kya khyal hai brother

No, neither facts nor the art of quoting facts is secondary. There are some technical essay topics where you have to present facts and figures mandatorily. I suggested you to keep your facts within reasonable limits. Your essay should not like look a collection of figures. It should maintain its identity as an essay.

Essay is the test of your = Grip over grammar + proper sentence structure + Knowledge about the subject matter + Presentation skills to balance the essay

Major fault in any of the above factors of the equation can cause ones failure.

There is no harm in lengthy outline but again you have to be very careful while presenting outline. Outline is a vulnerable piece of your essay. It gives first impression and occupies the mind of assessor. So try to put best impression in your first try. Don't include minute details in the outline, outline should not look like essay body, it should maintain its identity as an outline despite your details.

Sir i respect your opinion but differ with it. again , app "present scenio" main just cannot escape from it, it would be like.....gun w/o bullets,
Keeping the essence of essay intact but embellish it with figures..(rem we are talking about " present scnerio" app zyada dair examiner ko ghuma phira ker aik he baat nahin kah saktay chahay jitnee he cohence app nay intact rakhee ho.

The fact of the matter is ,FPSC ko angraizee ka teacher nahin chaheyay, They are on the look out for the ppl who are well conversent with the prevalent developments.Though essay is the test of one's command over the language but this fact shouldn't overshadow the importance of one's command over the topic of the essay.

i.e dont overestimate the importance of grammer and dont underestimate the importance of knowledge which is depicted through facts and figures.
Agar app ki facts and figures theek hai and they are there in abundance , tu examiner ko app ko fail kartay howay kafi takleef ho ge.
On the other hand, if it lacks facts and figures, he'll get it forthwith. Then, what it would lead to is anyone's guess.

Essay of CSS is not the one like

My favouite teacher
My best friend
My fovourite hobby

We need to get out of that mantality, its CSS
real world cruel people, hard to fleece them. Examiners are veterens in their fields, app no-grammar-mistake no-know-how-of-present-development wali approach kay saath examiner ko ghuma phira nahin saktay.
Difference there in CSS and 8 standard essay

When they say CSS is half done with you being the devotee of dawn, they are not wrong

Wow, I am not trying to criticize you but did you really ask the question for other people's opinion or did you just wanted to defend your point of view of including lots of facts and figures? :P

Anyhow, this is what I feel. The paper checker should be an english teacher most probably and even if he has alot of interest in current affairs, history or any other field pertinent to the essay he is checking, what are the odds of him remembering the exact figures? probably very small. Therefore it doesnt really matter whether you quote exact figures or not.

One point of concern for me is that the exact figures are usually accompanied by the source of information like according to WHO, OSHA etc. etc. and unless you quote the reference, I dont think its a good idea to mention exact figures. Therefore I concur Raz.

All the Best~

Aslam-o-Alaikum fellows,
essay is an attempt through which examiner checks student's writting skills and knowledge about the subject.
The writting skills include grammar, sentence formation and infact everything that is part of your piece of writting.
And, the knowledge about the subject include what do you know about the subject?how thoroughly have you studied and absorbed the knowledge of the subject and how well you are aware of the other things which are concerned with the subject ultimately.
So,there should be no criticizm a good essay should be blessed with facts or not.Undoubtedly, it should be blessed with the solid reasons.

Regards

Paper would naturally be interesting if you have the following in your essay:
1. coherence,
2. continuity,
3. good reasoning,
4. correct language,
5. good flow of thoughts

I wont like to elaborate because this discussion has already headed off the topic.

dear, discussion is all about argument, counter arguments and again counter arguments . so, no harm in defending one's point of view.
PS: replying late, cuz i really dont deam the point of view of those people who come with their point of views happy dovy whilst having no credentials under their belt.
