Please note ..that whenever you decide to write an essay you must first look at each and every word of the TOPIC of your essay .

your essay was . "Power of the Media"

so two words are important here. one is power and other is media.

it is better first to define these two words . power is the ability to influence people and media is channel through which people communicate.

now your whole essay must revolve around these two words. i do not think that you should have written about impact of media or media and democracy.

if i had written this essay i would have gone this like .
what is power.
what is media.
is media powerful? it will be powerful if it can influence people.
how does media influence people? ( here i would mention theories of media that clearly show the power of media.like research shows that if people continuously watch violence on tv then become afraid that the whole world is violent. they suffer from "mean world syndrome" and they can be easily duped. so when bush had to wage war against iraq, he made his people believe that the whole lot of alqaeda and saddam was after them . americans believed this story and supported bush . )

then i would write a little paragraph explaining that media does influence people.

then i would quote some examples from history.. that show how power of media was used.

consider the example. imam khomenei of iran was exiled in canada and yet he was able to topple shah of iran. how was this possible? people recorded his messages on audio cassettes and these were distributed to every nook and corner of iran. so each house became part of the revolution.
the important factor here is audio cassette which is , of course a medium.

consider another case. Maulana fazlullah or popularly known as mullah radio was able to run a parrallel government system is sawat. how? because of his sermons on radio. he was able to dupe the people and control them...

similarly in russian revolution ,, the first taken was to publish a newspaper.

then i would say it has been proved that media has infact a lot of power and this power can be used both positively ( in case of iran ) and negatively ( in case of sawat) ..
then i would wind up my essay by giving suggestions that how media's power can be used in a positive sense.



there were some other examples from history and some theories that i do not remember right now. but the point i want to make is that you must revolve around your topic and must not deviate.
