How to writer proper English
Let me throw some light on the significance of learning "how to write good English" in the papers of CSS exam.
Majority of the young aspirants commence their preparation for the CSS exam without taking into account their level of fluency in the written English. They focus on everything but English. They may pay due attention and dedicate their time to choose the optional subjects, how to attempt the papers, which subjects should be given more time and making time tables for the study but completely ignore the importance of writing grammatically correct English. Allow me to inform you folks that good vocabulary will take you no where if you are not acquainted with the basic grammatical rules of English. I mean, yeah, cramming vocabulary does carry a huge weightage in writing but if you are not clearly expressing yourself along with committing grammatical mistakes, you will be only baying at the moon. Furthermore, focus on writing clear and simple sentences. Make your ideas understandable to the examiner rather than racking your brains to write expensive and far fetched words. Your examiner may take offense if you only use outdated and like i said before "far fetched" words. My father, being a professor of literature taught me English and the very first advice he gave me was to write simple, brief and strong sentences. Strong means they should not be too lengthy to be ignored or confuse the next person. In addition, only PRACTICE can make you a perfect writer. Your "expression" will be getting stronger day by day as you practice writing expansion paragraphs and precise. Believe me, the "expression" has a huge role to play in fetching you good marks in the papers of Essay and Composition. You should also comprehend the importance of "using proper word at the proper place". You could have 10 words in your mind to state a single idea but that depends upon you which PROPER word to use from among them. Even if you want to think about CSS, first tighten your grip on English and prepare all other subjects along with as well otherwise there is no use of making abortive efforts. I am not discouraging you but I have been through it thrice. I qualified it as well Alhamdulillah but my experiences taught me some lessons and I thought i should share with you guys as well. |
