Confusion about English Preparation.
I'm preparing for CSS exam at home, reading books recommended on this forum but some terms of these books are very difficult to me.
The books from which I preparing are Practical English Usage (2nd Edition 1995 - Michael Swan) Leech, Svartvik - A Communicative Grammar of English-Third Edition |

Where do you feel difficulty ? So far as the books are concerned, Michael swan's practical english usage is more than up-to-mark..besides, do consult wren and martin's high school grammar for grammar and composition section together.. For Sentence correction, the related material is abundant here on the forum or simply purchase any book for the b.a english paper b, which contains a good deal of material for the common errors..
Do study if possible, Exploring the world of english by sadat syed esp for compostion portion, idioms, words, etc.. It is more than enough.Don't confuse urself with othr books . Regards |

You don't need to confuse yourself with the terms like phonetics, phenolgy, etc etc...just focus on what is necessary nd required.
Design a schedule and try to Follow it: - Memorize minimal 5 idioms per day - Memorize 5 pair of words/ or words extracted from any eng. newspaper you read and jot them down...it is the best way to memorize and retain vocabulary for durable period of time - Learn at least 5 to 10 rules for sentence correction each day - practice writing simple and short paragraphs... Follow this sort of timetable for certain period til you think you have fully griped the basics, then proceed with precis, comprehension ,etc Regards |
