Golden Rules for CSS Essay Writing
Introduction
 Come directly to the issue – no background
Language/Grammar
 Write in simple language but there must be clarity of ideas
 The essay that is easy in reading gives good marks
 No grammar or dictation mistakes
 Avoid the use of ‘you’ and ‘we’
 In a story or incident personal pronoun ‘I ’ can be used but in an essay its use must be scrupulously avoided
 Avoid the use of abbreviations or symbols such as ‘etc.’
 Grammar is a branch of logic
Organizing your Ideas
 Learn the art of organizing your ideas
 Progressive development of arguments
Paragraphing
 The first line of a paragraph should begin half an inch to the right of the other lines of a paragraph
 Develop/write a paragraph before conclusion i.e steps taken by the government (if relevant)
How to Begin?
 Realize the scope of the essay (read the statement and ponder over it for 10 or 15 minutes) and then plan it out
 If the topic is vague, we should begin by definition or elucidating it
 An apt quotation forms a good beginning
Miscellaneous/General Instructions:
An essay should in general be as impersonal as possible
Quality – not quantity (it is quality and not the quantity that matters)
Rewrite your essay by correcting your mistakes on a neat register
No “ism” e.g Humanism, Existentialism(because these are generally different schools of thought or theories) except Terrorism and Nationalism
Avoid to attempt one word essay e.g. economy (In case you have an option)
No Repetition of thoughts
No numbers e.g, 6,7,8,9…
Draw a margin line about an inch
An essay must be rounded up
Relevant and precise
Moreover, candidates must have a good collection of quotations on a wide range of topics that will adorn their written presentation.
Never try to impress, always try to express
No reference of Islam: - ( Reasons)
 We know nothing about Islam
 Faith is not debatable, hence, no discussion about faith.
 Variations in belief
How to Become a Good Essayist?
 No one can write well who does not write often
 A student should follow these principles to become a good essayist; “read, observe, think and practice writing.” The last one is the most important.
 Revision is must for the correction of mistakes of grammar, spelling, punctuation, and style etc.

these topics are highly valuable; the are attemptable, they are relevant to the current scenario of pakistan and they also relate to the nature of essay topics asked in the exam these days. I suggest you develop your own approach of attempting any argumentative topic. Do painstaking brainstorming in order to match your ideas with the topic asked. This approach will enable you familiarise yourself with the kind of work required on the given day. Best of luck..
