Default Why we fail in essay

Though the reasons of the failure varies from person to person but here is the basic flaw

the very first thing is the "topic selection"!

Topic selection is the most vital and crucial step because it determines one's whole steps.

How to select the topic?

First of all, forget whether you have "material" for it or not. One can easily pass essay without having any good material for it (strange but true). So, follow the below listed rules

1. You should be clear about what's the topic is about. Meaning, there should be no ambiguity in your mind about the topic.

2. You should have your own opinion about the topic. Forget what others say about that topic. Plus, you can go in favour or against of any topic. So feel free and follow your own opinion.

3. The topic should be close ended. Like even by reading the topic you should know from where you will start and from where it will end.

For example, "meaning and purpose of education" is an open ended topic and one can easily feel lost in the middle (I am not saying that it's a bad topic. Just giving example)

"Great nations win without fighting" and "violence is the last refuge of incompetent" are examples of close ended topics.

Some myths that causes failure in essay

1. People opt current affairs based topics because they have covered them for CA paper.

2. Opting odd topics only to impress the checker

3. Making essay more like a research paper

I am indebted to you, but I am still confused between the terms you have used - closed ended and open ended. It will b great if you take any one of the above mentioned essays to further elaborate it. Please draw a precise sketch of any one of the said topics so that aspirants can learn.
Thanks in advance

Default Open and close ended topics

The differentiation between closed ended and open ended topic

Let us look at the topics of CSS 2014

1. literature as a great cultural artifact
2. Language is a fit data for research in humanities and social science
3. Privatizing higher education-generating knowledge or making more money for the opulent
4. Women sportspersons are new ambassadors of the soft image of Pakistan
5. Post-modern ethos - a challenge to the west
6. Look to the east for a holistic progress
7. Great nations win without fighting
8. Can meaning be fixed?
9. The character of a nation can be judged by its symbolic narratives
10. violence is the last refuge of the incompetent.

In above topics 4,7, 9 and 10 are closed ended topics

Explanation:

If you look at these topics, they are themselves directing how to start and then end.

For instance

Women sportspersons are new ambassadors of the soft image of Pakistan

It itself is portraying the whole path starting from the women role in sports. Then to show how it's creating soft image and then how is it benefiting Pakistan and how we can improve it.

In other words, you need to expand the topic.

Now coming to open ended topics

For instance

literature as a great cultural artifact

It doesn't portray a complete picture. Meaning, the path is ambiguous. One will connect literature with artifact but after that it's difficult to comprehend it and then to conclude.

Hope it explains

Note: many of the aspirants pass essay while attempting open ended topics. So my writing should be acted by those who have no or less essay knowledge and practice

Classification of essays,
Is it better to understand the meaning of topic rather than understand the nature of essay? Please define as; there are many types of essays, too. Many of us do not have knowledge of it what the type of essay is.
I have just heard these terms. Should we know the types of essays or just understand the topic.
• Reflective essay
• Narrative essay
• Imaginative essay
• Expository essay
• Descriptive essay

Can we describe both the positive and negative impacts of a subject matter in a comparative scenario ? or a clear line should be adopted from the word go?

Regarding topics such as;

Pakistan's Geo strategic location : A blessing or a misfortune?

Is privatizing higher education spreading knowledge or making more money for the opulent?

How to start making an Essay Body?please
Body is indeed important.

Let me state this way

Intro, conclusion n outline are of great importance. After that, body comes.

But, one should know that the aforementioned things all rely on the BODY.

NOW

how to start body?

You should introduce the topic in a brief way after intro. Then to expand it according to the topic and try to prove your stance. Once you do it, jump to conclusion.
