Personally, I found your outline terse and succinct. Almost free from irrelevant material.

I have written another topic related to media like this...

Essay: Media and the transition in society

Outline:

Introduction
Media: A catalyst to transition in society
Media through the lens of history
Functions of Media
Impact of media on the transition in society
• Breaking cultural barriers
• Export of western values
• Freedom of expression
• The rise of propaganda literature
• Reflection of realities
• A catalyst in political arena
The future of Media in a rapidly transitioning world?

In the 21st century, our world has shrunk into a global village. Pragmatic distances are toppled by virtual realities. People living miles apart can connect with their friends and family in the blink of an eye. Global happenings are instantaneously reported on television and internet. At the center stage of all these phenomena is media.
Media plays an important role in a society. Society is not a static entity and also it does not exist in a vacuum. It constantly evolves and morph into a different shape. Media is instrumental in shaping public opinion and bringing change. The role of social media in Arab Springs is a well-known instance in this matter.
Media is a network of communication channels through which news, education, entertainment, data, and promotional messages are disseminated. It includes radio, television, telephone, and internet among others. Free media is an integral part of the democracy. A watchdog, always on the look out for exposing the ills of the society. Media has become the voice of the downtrodden masses. Its role is instrumental in shaping public opinion. Lord Macauly termed it as the fourth pillar of democracy. With the advent of social media platforms, it has gained new perspectives and broader horizons.
The invention of printing press during the fifteenth century was a remarkable feat of brilliance. The resultant mass production of books steered the flow of information and knowledge in different directions. Many later technological advancements left an indelible mark on the course of mass media throughout the history such as the arrival of photography, the birth of radio and television. In the recent times, internet was catapulted on the center stage of mass media and is increasingly proving to be much potent than its predecessors with far-reaching implications.
Functions of media are multifarious. It is the mirror of society and it shall, likewise, work towards identifying the ills of the society and their remedies. The role of media in creating public opinion is undeniably important. It creates awareness in general public; making them cognizant of their rights, duties and responsibilities. Democracy is strengthened by a free and fair media because it ensure free and fair elections, transparency, accountability and transfer of power. Yet another function of media is to create social harmony by spreading the message of love and brotherhood. Media promotes the art and culture and could strive towards the preservation of our national heritage.
Had one of Columbus’ sailors fallen into a slumber and woken up in today’s world to the ringtone of a twenty-first-century iPhone, he would have found himself in a world strange beyond comprehension. “Is this heaven?” he might well have asked himself. “Or perhaps – hell?” We as humans, have come a long way. The last 500 years have witnessed a phenomenal and unprecedented growth in human power. The transition in society have taken place at a rapid pace. From ox carts to tractors, from trains to Airbuses, from letters to emails and from emails to Skype and online calls, we have transformed every part of our lives. The transition is enormous and larger-than-life.
Cultural barriers existed in our world since time immemorial but never had these barriers been perished as vehemently as they are being perished today. Media is at the forefront of breaking cultural and language barriers. BBC World Service is available in more than 40 languages. Social media sites such as Facebook, Twitter and Instagram are increasingly morphing into an international community with billions of users around the world. KFC and McDonalds food chains are opened in every other street of China meanwhile US is also not immune to the pervasive Chinese cuisine. Each day more and more cultural barriers are demolished by the spillover of media.
In our Pakistani context, the transition in the society is many times accredited to the media especially when it comes to the role of media in the export of western values. A general perception looms in the public that the moral fabric of our society is torn apart by the media. PTV, once a very revered institution is now derisively criticized for its odyssey towards modernity and in doing so it is seen as going towards western values. Private media channels are seen as the harbinger of change as they are always adopting to find new ways to entertain the audiences. While the trek to modernity and western values may not always be detrimental to our society; at times, our values and traditions comes under attack from this foray.
Freedom of expression is the main constituent for a healthy and a progressive society. In today’s world, freedom of expression is often curbed by the totalitarian regimes but media has constantly strived for being the torchbearer of freedom of expression. Social media has provided people with the platform for raising their voice against the oppressive policies of the state or highlight any other event that is shrouded in mystery and the print and electronic media is refrained from talking about it or investigating into it.
