‘Heart’ Breaking News

We just have got the news that a girl has committed suicide as she couldn't score the highest number in the examination; a girl was set on fire by her in-laws for not bringing in loads of dowry as demanded by the in-laws. Our reporter has informed us that a sound of blast was heard in the central area of the city, and severe causalities are expected as a result of the bomb blast we will update you as we will get further information from our correspondent (after five minutes it was updated the blast wasn't a bomb blast and was sound was of burst of the tyre). These are some of that heart breaking news which could be heard after every half an hour on the news channels. Electronic media in Pakistan has touched its heights of popularity for broadcasting news, it can be noticed that they have been earning sheer amount of profits through sponsors, by selling the hot issues of the country.
Channels have air time of 24/7 for broadcasting; they not only require different issues but also the controversial issues which can, not only attract the masses but also could win hearts of sponsors. They have expanded the different issues just to burn stomach of day long transmission like Malala, Judiciary and Memogate are the few to be named here. All the channels are following 12 masaly ki chat for their programming, like every channel has 3 live programmes scheduled on daily basis hosted by renowned anchors, the repeat programming and then outbreak of the breaking news and hourly news bulletins with no significant difference in selection of topics for the programmes.
These breaking news leave no mark of positivism, optimism not only in the minds of citizens of Pakistan but also project an image of violated, disturbed and dis-balanced nation to the world on the whole. The media personnel most of the times talk about devising code of conduct for each and every section of the society. But when it comes to formulation of code of conduct for the media they most of the times consider it against the freedom of speech.
It is need of hour that a code of conduct be formulated and enforced for the media as they do not continue to play with the image of the homeland and with emotions of the people, and this regular outburst of unnecessary breaking news could be controlled.
