The social media has become a major part of the modern civilization. It is surely a defining factor that how integrated the human social interactions have become. Despite bringing the people together and virtually shrinking or removing all the distances among the people, the social media has brought about a variety of socio-political, legal, and moral challenges in the society. (Introduction is not up to the mark, You must have have to focus on "its role" and impact upon the masses broadly"

Electronic and Print Media's Role in contemporary world you have missed this important point

2. Functions of Social Media
a. Social interaction
b. News and information dissemination
c. Business’s promotion
d. Shaping public opinion
e. Entertainment Advertisements, Breaking News & updating

3. Social Media Today
a. Over 62% of adults worldwide use social media
b. Top five countries with largest portion of population online
i. UK with over 53 million (85% of population)
ii. Germany with over 67 million (82% of population)
iii. France with over 52 million (80% of population)
iv. Japan 102 million (80% of population)
v. USA with over 244 million (79% of total population)
c. facebook is the largest social network with over 1.1 billion users worldwide
d. twitter is the world’s second largest social network with over 140 million active users
e. YouTube is the world’s largest video network with over more than 800 million news users every month Could you please give me the link from where you have got these facts and figures, I would be thinkful to you...

4. Benefits of Social Media.....Function and benefits must be placed together, as most of the things are overlapping
a. Freedom of expression
b. Free publicity
c. Promotion of entrepreneurship
d. Free and immediate communication
e. Online education
f. Integration of societies
i. Through promotion of culture, traditions, history, heritage and so on
g. Global harmony

Now you have again missed the impartant 'negative role of media' because it contains both positive and negative roles, for example, hype media, sensasionalization, yellow journalism, fake and unbalanced news, biased and unbiased news, Rating trend among the news channels specifically, and many other things related to print media, and its role

5. Challenges of Social Media Here, you have nicely pointed out the flaws in media as per contemporary trend
a. Data protection and privacy
b. Decreasing reliability
c. Wider anonymity of the users
d. Misuse by the terrorist organizations (world security challenge)
e. Psychological cost of using social media
i. Perpetuation of loneliness (a research study: “Facebook Makes Us Sadder And Less Satisfied” at university of Michigan)
ii. Adverse impacts on relationships
f. Spread of ‘hate speech’
i. E.g. blasphemous video on YouTube last year

6. Dealing with the Social Media Challenges
a. Protection of privacy
i. Through technology
ii. Through legislation (local and international laws)
b. Proper management codes in business organizations
c. Intelligence surveillance
d. Reduction in the use of social networks – targeted at individuals
e. Public awareness campaigns on social media use

You have missed the PEMRA role, ethics of journalism, IB's role to catch corrupt media person, controling of character assassinations

7. Conclusion

Everybody is requested to comment and suggest.

Jazaak-Allah

Loads of thanks dear for your valuable comments and suggestions, here is my view in reference to the areas pointed out by you:
1. This essay does not emphasize on the ‘electronic media’ rather its center of focus is ‘social media’.
2. The data that I have mentioned in the outline is taken from an infographic video that I downloaded from the www.torrents.net.
3. The reason why I have mentioned the ‘benefits and functions’ of social media separately is that the 'functions' spell out the standard or objectives for which the social media channels were/are introduced. However, the benefits may exceed the already pointed out functions as the people find their own way to deal with their newly created problems through the social media. We may say that the social media use goes through an evolution with the passage of time. For example, now the facebook is being used by many new businesses for free of cost promotion which was not the initial purpose of the creation of the said social network.
4. Sir, there is no role of media persons in the management of the social media as it is managed by the users of it. However, the media persons can share their opinion that can be rated by the people’s reactions to it as because of the interactive feature of the social media.

Hope that I have made my point clear properly.

Humblest Regards
