Today’s economist view privatizing higher education vital for the development of the country. But one can ask why the governments need privatization of higher education when they themselves may provide their people with higher education? What factors induce them to privatization of higher education? How can it be possible to ensure that such a education policy will cater knowledge than solely generating money for the opulent?
Privatization of higher education has served mankind around the globe. It has brought forth unexpected discoveries and knowledge of science, medicine, economics, politics etc., that’s once were the prerogative of advanced countries, have made the contemporary world distinct from past world. Privatizing higher education takes place in the country when it hardly able to meet with the modern day challenges and, thereby, receive stimulation of knowledge based economy for the country as to come abreast with the advanced world. This stimulation is provided by private owners. Private owners are attracted by host country’s investment friendly policies and incentives. After succeeding the license, private firms take the responsibility to establish and provide quantitative and qualitatitive facilities for the related people. Consequently, economic, political and social institutions get stimulation through privatizing higher education. It is the sole purpose of privatization of higher education. On the other side, it has reinforced the idea that only private entrepreneurs of higher education capable of providing qualitative education. The result of this idea has begun to get substantial significance that it tend to privatize higher educational institutions on nepotism basis which create knowledge dearest and confined to opulent class, and thereby, vulnerable class of society become more poorer. This imprudent policy widen the gap between the haves and haves not. In spite of such a valid criticism on privatization of higher education for the opulent, its significance cannot be undermined the fact that privatization of higher education changed the economic, political and social institutions generally and the particularly the world at large.
