AOA,

I am facing a couple of issues in EDS:

1. The book by Kashmiri might be a great one for CSS candidates but it is not readable at all. There is no flow in the writeup. There are just a couple of fact-stating sentences that have been joined together to form a book. Is there any other book (preferably by a foreign author) that you think should be (nearly) as good for preparing EDS as Kashmiri's book?

2. I am one of the worst crammers the planet has seen. I mean, may be I can manage a few facts here, a few dates there, a few numbers about this, a few dimensions of that. But just a 'few'. EDS seems like nothing but a nonsensical test of how low you can stoop to show you are nothing but a piece of mere recording machine. Is there a way around it? Any tips on memorising and remembering things?

3. What should I do? Should I 'read' the book first or should I simply start cramming the Size of Venus, its moons (there aren't any, thank God! :P), its temperature, its I don't know what!! Is there any use developing a sense of the whole thing (with some facts) in EDS or just cramming cramming and cramming?

I hope I am not the only one facing this issue

Keenly awaiting a helpful response!

I really appreciate the way all you seniors have helped me! If it weren't for your such comprehensive responses, I would still rather be stuck.

Indebted!

I agree with on this 'book' issue for the EDS subject. However, we need to realize that the EDS comes under the GK subject and, hence, we need to treat it as such. Make sure you stick to the past papers to have a good idea about the syllabus while making your own concise notes. As for memorizing part, try to understand the details of the topic under study by looking at several pictures and videos. I've around 2-3 most recommended books on EDS but I am not opening them anymore due to problems that you've mentioned.

As for your comment about Kashmiri's book, I also share feelings with you. You should start preparation with the book of Mian Shafiq. EDS is a science subject, and like all other science subject, it has known facts and figures. Candidates with social science background always feel difficulty with it. What is true, we have to memorize it. You can make it easy by tables, figures, charts, mnemonics.

For Biology, book of "O" level is the best. You can take all human systems and any topic from it. For Physics, book of intermediate is good. For many other topics internet is the best source.

I read the fpsc recommended book on eds, the one by isaac Asimov; I found it highly readable, interesting and informative.
