Due to refraction. When light travels through a denser substance, it bends towards the normal, so things appear to be at a different angle, size or depth than they really are.

Default Every day science questions and answers

Everyday science questions and answers
Here are few Everyday science Questions which I want to share with answers. Please see and point where discrepancies:
Q1) Why is solid CO2 called dry ice?
Ans) When CO2 is in solid state and you heat it, it will directly pass into gaseous state(sublimation) without passing through liquid state,so it is called dry ice because liquid state is absent.
Q2) Why is N2O called laughing gas?
Ans) At first place, it appear that on smelling, it will cause one laugh, but story is somewhat different. In some cases it relax one from pain, so it is this relaxation which is idiomised as laughing.
Q3) why is NaCl used in freezing mixture?
Ans)It is experimentally proved that adding solute to solvent cause its freezing point further down. This phenomenon is called as depression of freezing point. So when we add NaCl to freezing mixture, its temperature further down so it is not melted easily by surrounding temperature.
Q4) Why water remain cool in earthen ware pitcher?
Ans)As we know in biology that evaporation cause cooling.Similarly water is constantly evaporised through pores in the pitcher,it is also evaporation,so it keep the pitcher cool, hence water in it.
Q5) why bees die away after after biting human being? (but still they are fool enough to do so).
Ans) After stinging human being, poison bag is opened and poison also spread in her own body, which cause her death.
Q6) We never see birds urinating?
Ans)Unlike mammals ,birds do not have separate system for urination , instead it is secreted combined with bowls.
Q7) Why people of hilly areas are often red?
Ans) Since there is shortage of oxygen up in the hills, so as an adaptation they have a little more amount of RBCs as compare to people of normal plains areas, this is why they are a bit red.
Q8)Why tyre bursting is frequent in summer as compare to winter?
Ans) Since we know that gas expand with temperature, so in summer, air expand which exert more pressure on tube of tyre, as a result it burst.
Q9)What is the taste of cyanide?
Ans)No one can tell its taste, because any one who dare to taste it pass away. You often see spies in film which on arresting at once touch cyanide tablets with tounge, and die so as not to make secret public.
Q10)we know that normally water does not pass through plastic bags, but when we carry ice in it, we see continuous drops of water, how it happen?
Ans)This water does not come from inside, but this is the moisture in surrounding air which is condensed into liquid phase on making contact with cold ice inside the plastic bag.

Default Why water boils at low temperature at mountains ?

The fact about the boiling of water is that water boils and bubles up through the ware when its pressure becomes equal to external atmospheric pressure.
And as we know that atmospheric pressure is low at mountains as compared to sea level thats why water boils earlier at mountains.
