Hello guys, can anyone comment about Mian Shafiq new book for general science and ability which is now a days available.in market published by Jahangir Sons....

As usual, the aforementioned book in a revised form is much better than any other book for the subject concerned. He is , no doubt, a competent person.

I am preparing from this book and its very well written almost all the syllabus is covered in this book plus the langauge used is very easy which makes it understandable for the students without any science background. And you will get fairely good idea about the second part of GSA i.e. General ability, which is very well explained with examples.

For IR I am mainly preparing from Prakash chandr book of IR, Ikram Rabbani, and I also consult Joshua goldstein ,for theories I am relying on Theories of IR by scott burchill. I have not selected books for criminology yet, but as it is a new subject I would prefer preparing from FPSC recommended books.

"General Science and Ability by Mian Shafique" is the latest and updated one according to new and revised syllabus.

LonelyAhemd Tuesday, September 22, 2015 10:34 AM

I have gone through mian shafique’s book and found it lengthy. It contains many unnecessary material. Remember general science section will have 20 mcqs as well. A good book should cover the topics according to the marks in the exam and in my opinion 400 pages for 40 marks is not worth it. As for general ability, things are still unclear as most books and academies are treating as if it will be objective. While on FPSC website it clearly states that it will be subjective. We will not know for sure until the exam itself.

I do not have anything against mian shafique’s book nor am I saying that any other book is better. I am just saying that it is not as good as everyone is saying it is. The best source for preparation still is the internet and past papers. I would also like redirect you to this thread by soulstar in which he reflects on his experiences working with the people who actually make the books.

Internet is the best source for preparing revised syllabus, we have not tested the credibility of these new books yet.

safeer khan Saturday, October 17, 2015 12:51 AM

Well. That's also true. I considered it a good one as it has been compiled in accordance with the syllabus and someone like me who has only to go through topics, owing to my background in science, for quick revision can save time.
If you have to start from scratch, go for O levels' books.

Commie Fabian Wednesday, November 16, 2016 02:24 AM

Hello everyone.
I've no whatsoever sciences background and have been an economics student since O levels, and I know there are no shortcuts in CSS but please recommend me something, a book or any other way to cover General Science & Ability, keeping in mind I've never studied physics, Chemistry or Biology.
Thank you

ahmedZubair Thursday, November 17, 2016 11:11 AM

get Jahangir's World Times' general science & ability it's a well organized book and gives a good starting point for all the topic areas you can search for extra material once you have good grip on basic knowledge. good luck :)

ahmedZubair Thursday, November 17, 2016 11:13 AM

Jahangir's World Times' general science & ability is a compact and to the point book you will get good understanding in a fairly short time. good luck :)

Le rêveur Wednesday, November 30, 2016 10:55 AM

For IR use Prakash Chander, Globalization of world politics by john Baylis, Goldstein and the last and most important internet.
