How to start preparation for EDS?
Hello Folks,
I want to ask one question here. I have gathered some books for EDS like Kashmiri's and Imtiaz Shahid's etc. I want to ask that how should i start the preparation of EDS? Now some people say that collect the questions from Past 10 papers and start preparing them and then prepare topic wise. Is this the right approach? Is it suggestible that i follow the books and what ever topic comes in the book, i prepare that and so on?? So summarizing all please tell 1. Should i make notes? If Yes, then how should i make notes from different books? Should i take material about one topic from different books and write it in one place or what?? 2. Should i prepare questions of past papers and then topic wise or any other strategy? 3. MOST IMPORTANT: Please honestly tell how in how much time i should be able to prepare EDS fully consulting 2-3 books (As this is my first time so i dont know how much time it takes) Please Senior Members and CSP members reply to these queries. No need to make notes, rather use highlighter, Read Biology section from Kashmiri & Rest from Samoo's Book. Quote:

I appeared in CSS2010 and although i am no authority yet some of the tips helped me alot:
1- I went through Kashmiri's book only to get a hint about the topics to study. so i covered everything in Kashmiri. but i never used Kashmiri's material nor even read it. Reasons being: a) the english is pretty poor so although you may do good in EDS yet you may end up losing marks in English b) There were quite a few flaws, and at times, more than the required knowledge or information. 2- Solved past papers and whenever i got an MCQ/answer wrong i would read the whole topic and those related to it. (it is a quick way of getting through things. Remember this modus operandi may be flawed for optional subjects, because in optionals you need in depth knowledge. however for subjects like EDS you are not required in Depth knowledge. Don't trust me? look at CSS2010 EDS paper. Remember they are not examining/testing engineers/doctors/scientists alone, therefore they keep the paper a general testing ground). 3- Use the internet for all the topics/headings/subjects. Reason is that you can get multitude of different styles of answers. for example what is an isotope can have many answers: one given by a 10th grader, the other by a bachelors in chemistry and the other by a Masters in Chemistry. So if the question carries 2 marks you can go away with a 10th grader explanation or definition if it is more than that you can suit yourself with some other definition. As i said earlier i am no authority over this subject, but it did me wonders mashallah and i was able to secure 42/50 mcqs and lost 4 marks in the rest of the paper by the grace of Allah.
